i got one of those ixps blank but you cant shape it without a barrel . horrible shite. the guy that sold to me is lending me a planer. i was suprized when it ripped chunks. rockers were all fucked up with to much entry. still light material and im told it holds up well. might to a red beach or figured maple veneer on the bottom. glass deck in epoxy and then do a poly swirl over the top of that
Post some picks!

My point was that all the veneers work about the same. Sorry if the bamboo looks like something out of HD but I've talked about many others. There are hundreds and I've used only about 6. It's also nice to see so much creativity on this site ... and I've used so much of this stuff over the years so ..........
Coil style - This works but get ready for a learning curve. These guys have it down and it took a long time.
Innegra - I haven't used it personally yet but I have distributors who are very impressed. This company seems to be open to weaving hybreds, i.e. glass/innegra ones. No other company has been open to do this before especially at light weights. This has promise.
Carbon laminates - too bad it's black. Covering it is difficult. If it weren't black, if it were white, it would be our standard.
Kevlar - use innegra - better for boards.
Sandwich construction - overkill for surfboards, difficult to produce, expensive, stiff, core materials aren't surfboard friendly, difficult to get consistant quality, requires painting for consumer acceptance. When it works it's great though.
Polyester fabric - nice flex, looks good, hard to make lightweight. Inconsistant results without an experienced and fastitious laminator.
Of all the combinations I've tried, T-Flex beats them all,,,, by a lot. Strength, flex, durability, cost. Simple straight forward construction method. You don't like the look of wood, paint it before the laminate. Bottom line, it's a reeforcement first. The very best one.
Again, love all the creativity. And cost of R&D? I made my living running an R&D shop for 20 years. R&D happens between your ears and isn't at all expensive. It's less expensive than advertising, team guys and reps and can accomplish the same as those when done right. In other words people will seek you out to experience something new .... something different.
That was well put!
I've seen some hand layups with RR and S cloth that are so light and surf great.
Greg don't get me wrong I love the look of wood. Just not when It's put on a surfboard looking like flooring. I personally like the veneer to look more uniform.
XPS/EPS cores are simple to make and provide a unique riding experience. So many ways to put them together.
Ineegra is problematic in a production shop, However if you have the time bag it. Stay with the 2oz Cloth.
Just finished all the Christmas rushes so time for more R&D. Creating a production flow with the best Combination of Core and Skins.
I'll have to put some Quick Set in the mix!
Greg you have really pushed board building to a new dimention and I thank your for that!
Kind regards,

PRO's can be a bit difficult at times for sure.
Today I finally had the Silver Bullet ridden in some good South Side of Huntington Beach Pier.
My son when to San Diego this morning to surf in the Monster Pro-Am.(He got First) His roommate "Timmy Reyes" raided Shaun's board room and took the Silver Bullet (Vacuum Bag Quad) for a test ride. It was brand new so it got stickered up with Timmy's sponsers. He rode it for 3 1/2 hours and loved it. Now I have to make 2 more. Timmy wants one and I have another one for Brett Simpson. Shauns going to test it tomorrow. Their going to get me some photos as well. It's actually really fun to get feed back so I can finially get moving on this stuff. I have the CORE worked out and will make at least 4 new blanks this week for the next round of builds. Now that all the Christmas rushes are out of the way it's time to play again. I've tried to get Adam from 4 W S F to get me some plugs and fins to try. Looks like I will go with the FCS Fussion. Bruce Folwer is making some nice board with them.
Hope to post some pics this week.
Cheers,
Surfding

yeah molded polyprop could b the future imo
Try finishing it off with 220 grit when you come to it. 80 grit just shreds XTR or EPS in my experience.
Molded polyprop is the bitch. Any competent molder will tell you the same. You need to ball park the steam time as it keeps expanding once out of the mold. You also need a large drying room to stabilize the foam once out of the mold. Sizes can be + or - 5% so there goes an acurate blank. Expensive too so rejects are a problem figured into the cost. Great for expensive packaging for high end electronics, bad for cores unless you are making thousands of boogie boards. Bead size is gigantic, lots of voids between beads. Doesn't shape well at all. Burns at speeds of normal planers with a shaping bit. Not a stand up solution as far as I can see, especially here in the States.
