the fastest 3 to 4 foot point break surfboard on the planet

Hi dudes just got back waves were average but no crowds which is a good thing being summer holidays ,The fishing was good it gave me plenty of time to ponder this projects direction but still nothing definite other than the 6 foot length. My kid road her bike without training wheels for the first time.

Hydro, the 2nd board i made was a keel fish. Was pretty crude, but it was the fastest board i have ever owned. Flat bottom, the rails were basically square that i rounded off with shaping screen, and the edge in the tail would cut you open if you scraped your shins on them. Flat bottom. Fast Fast Fast, and that was in under head high beachies. You can do it.

All the fish comments are good, but the fat rails will slow em down… too much volume making contact with water at the same time. I would say a hybrid style is the way to go, big chop tail or a wide squash/square, thick in the middle but pretty domed deck foil and lower rails with the rocker outlined in the second or third post. it will handle like a 1000 hp miata on a an oily road, but it should go like a banshee.

A shaper down in South Carolina I used to know used to put a huge channel through the middle of the board, like a superconcave or something, starting like 1 or 2" from the nose. He said it would funnel air under your front foot so even less of the board was in contact with water, meaning you would go really really fast. I never picked one up, but I heard it worked. Still, I would go with flat bottom, flat rocker. low rails… also, a less curvy outlline

I have a very similar idea Grasshopper, how low do I go with the rocker?

If I make it the same thickness the whole length of the board without a stringer say      1 ¾”

And go easy on the glass it should flex like a pipo board or alias or body board or inflatable surf mat. This factor of flex can compensate for the rocker and allow me to bend the board using my weight to achieve perfect hydro dynamic contact.

That’s why you gotta do the traditional DOWN rail. The small tuck down low becomes basically a release rail. So you get a high volume rail with a tight “corner” at the bottom to keep the water from wrapping around.

For the size wave we’re talking about, wide, flat, twin keeled fish with down rails and a straight template from the wide point (several inches ahead of center) back. For a slighlty bigger wave, a single finned hull is faster.

Size of the wave matters…

Soo, I see no reference to a bonzer…

Those tend to be fast boards in good waves.

I personally wouldnt go lower than 3 or 3 1/2 in the nose. I have a 5’11 with 3 1/2" of nose rocker, and it can be a little sketchy when its steep because it wants to pearl on late drops. One way to go would be go with a nice nose flip, but don’t extend the rocker very far into the board.

What kind of point is it? If you’re talking about barrels, you may want to consider adding some rocker. Heres a video where Todd Proctor explains why more rocker = more speed in hollow surf

If that link doesnt work, its on surfline under premium partner videos, proctor, super typhoon. He talks about the concave a lot, but for pure speed, you should go with a flat bottom.

If you’re talking about a more mushy trestles-style wave, then stick with the 3 1/2 nose and 1 1/2 to 2 in the tail. Don’t shape the tail rocker too far into the middle because the rocker in front of your back foot will ‘plow’ and create drag.

I edited the list to include bonzer specially for you !

I do plan on getting one from the same faller that you get yours from the wife said its ok to order them in a few weeks time but in the meantime I am riding that piece of ply wood mostly.
