[ THIS was the photo I was going to post under ‘the epitome of stoke’, before the ‘browse’ and ‘upload attachment’ facilities disappeared into cyberspace recently…]
I believe the expression in “Dogtown Z-Boys” was : "I’m just shitting you " ! […you know that … "RESPECT " ! [geez , I watch TOO MUCH T.V. !]

[…but , your ‘photoshop’ skills ARE second to none, Grant… tehehe [ I KNOW what you do for a job !] …and I DID notice what ankle you whacked the leggy on for poor Georgia !!]
We’re all kids at heart, the first one of my close friends is due to have a kid in Feb, we’re all really stoked, and it gives us all an excuse to act like kids again.
My mate’s wife has agreed (with out any persation) to let him build a skate ramp in the back garden, so he does’nt have to watch us while he looks after the nipper.
We all want to get the nipper into surfing and skating asap, I think we realise if we had gotten into it earlier in life we would all be ripping by now, (bad backs and knees withstanding) but what age is good to start them off on??? obviously we will be putting a large surf poster above it’s coat but when can it get it’s toes wet?
Goofy by nature I suppose…hey, never thought to switch the images over…but the sun would be throwing the shadows the wrong way and make it look like it was taken on the east coast…
most definitely a good idea to get them goin real early. Im 16 now and started when I was 12. Still somewhat early but kind of strange having a friends little brother ripping at 9 yrs old while I was just learning to stand. He started at 5 or 6 years old and had he stuck with it he would be a real ripper.
I’ve seen a lot of kids who really rip, and a lot of kids having loads of fun, as I was not born near the sea and never really had the opertunity, I didn’t start sufing until I was in my 20’s (bit of a late bloomer) can’t really rip yet but have no intention of going pro I just want to have fun. I would definaley concider my self a true core surfer, and when I get the chanse I will alway be out in watre in what ever mother nature can throw at me (rain, snow, pollution ect) and will still be grinning ear to ear. Mabye if I started when I was a nipper I would really rip now or mabye getting too good too young would mean that by the time I got to my age I took it for granted or grew out of it like your 9 yr old friend. I can’t imagine life with out surfing, it’s an alien concept, it’s just so much a part of me now and has brought so many benifits to ny live, I can’t wait for the kid to get old enough to get started.
Derek Hynd and son " Lochlan" [yep , that’s how Derek named him]…also a [foamie] quiver proponent…

Imagine , in 10-20 years time, the next batch of surfing father’s kids…Carroll, Slater, Curren, Hynd, Parko, Occy… ? “Hicksy” ? hehehe
