the kids are alright...[photos]

Actually, my boy says surfing “looks boring” but he’s totally into the “juice” of the overhead tram wires:

Good stuff Allan!!

Pimped out surf club foamie and my daughter Mackenzie…

she looks like a chubbier version of kate nowadays hicksy

amazing the difference a coupla years makes to one’s appearance , eh ?

so ...

how does the board go , can she stand on it yet ??

cheers

ben

Yeah she can stand on it, knee paddle it too…

The board still survives and has been pounded heaps of times…

She’s grown about a foot taller since that was taken…

Here’s one of one thats not out yet. She’s giving a thumbs up about going surfing. Look close. Could also be trying to make a shaka.

dd

Mackenzie ready for the board paddle, 500 metres…

Set to go…

and what happens when you’re too far behind the pack…

She tried her best and that’s why I’m so very proud of her, such a great experience…

Kate is very competitive, made it through the heats and into the semi’s, missed out by one placing on getting into the final 24…

She tried her hardest too, I’m one very proud Dad, not bad for their first competition…

Just wait until next year!!!

Congrats to the Girls Hicksy.

They are getting a good Aussie grounding in ocean skills, best way to breed confidence.

Cheers

Invest now and watch your dividends grow! I get to surf more now than when I was 15. My 11 year old surfed for 7 hours today. Mom and Dad had to split shifts because neither of us have the energy to hang out at the beach that long. The joy I get when my kids are stoked over a great ride is sometimes even better than surfing myself.

What stokes out your grom more than letting him help shape his new 5’3" thruster? Letting him airbrush it himself! Of course, he didn’t listen to a word I said and stuck the spray gun right up against the foam, blasting the tape everywhere and giving it a “scribble” effect. But it was his board, so I let him have at it. It actually came out better than the vision I had for it:

And it serves it’s purpose well:

His second effort - a green spider web on a 5’2" 5 fin plug setup to ride as a quad or thruster (I helped with the tape and then he took over with the spray gun). This was taken before the glass job. His shirt says it all:

Here he is on his that one:

And my 4 year old making it look double overhead with an indy rail grab on his 5’4" egg:

And a bit less sketchy with some style:

And my favorite pic:

Excellent stuff, good to see kids learning to harness the ocean, and learning from their Dads…

When they get older, they could be your superannuation fund…

Keep them coming…

an update

the ‘green pin’ ,

and the ‘Nemo’

… getting used at last !!

STOKED !!!

Awesome shots Chip. I’m working on two 5’ boards for my 3yo daughter and her 3yo cousin. The board only comes up to my chest, but it’s a full-on mal for her (she’s only 90cm/3ft tall). I can’t wait for the first time she gets into the water with it, I’m hoping there’ll be grins like the ones in your shots all around.

good on ya !

do you by any chance know simon , are you by any chance the guy on facebook , making some very nice boards [that we have both commented on ] in .....  south australia "somewhere"   ? [haha ]

  cheers

Hey Chip, no that’s not me. I am making boards in SA “somewhere”, but I only know Simon through his sporadic entries on Swaylock’s and your regular references to his escapades. Just checked out his jig for repairing snapped boards in SDRepairman’s thread - it’s a well-thought-out solution to the problem of getting the rocker right.

You might have bumped into my brother Tom though. He’s over in Bunbury, a bit South of your stompin’ grounds. It’s his son that I’m making one of the Baby Eggs for.

They do grow up fast…

BUMP!

Just thought I’d share the stoke. I just laminated my daughter’s first board. I’ve dubbed it The Rainbow Fish (I know, it’s not a fish). It’s named after her favourite book.

It has a 4oz bottom and a 2x4oz deck.

Next step is to make a fin (using one of Chippy’s templates) and glass it on, then hotcoat, sand and hit the water!

good on ya !  thanks

well, she's got the rainbow dress already ...

now for the rainbow fin and rainbow wetsuit too eh ?
