Ace, what blank did you use for this one? 11’ 3"? I know it’s not but I like the thicker look.
US Blanks 11’3". I had not shaped a 11’er in a long time the blank worked out pretty good. Did not have to fight anything to get what I wanted lots of room for roll and V. Eric wanted a steam roller paddler cause he has a bad back. He is doing a customized paint job on it ought to be interesting.

Starting with the latest I made. I picked it up from the glasser's just this afternoon. I wish I could say I glassed it but the truth is that this outstanding job is Paul Lefevre's work. Paul is a young and talented glasser who works with Axel Lorentz (remember "The Enterprise" thread?) and he really understood what I wanted this board to look like. It was glassed with double 6oz top and 6oz bottom silane cloth and volan patches were added to the top (from the tail to the curve of the step-deck) and to the bottom (around the fin-box), cut about 2" inside from the rail in both cases. In spite of all that glass (and quite a lot of volume), the board is surprisingly light for its size. Photos:

Long Riders is one of my favorite westerns. This song is my favorite from the movie. Speaks for most of us unreconstructed Southerners. Words to the song are the best. also..nices boards. Balsa yours won't download on my computer for some reasons.
They don't measure those sticks by the "foot"; they are measured by the yard/meter. Ry Cooder did the music for "Longriders". "killed by Bob Ford, One of the boys". A few years back the magazine "Cowboys and Indians" did an article about the top 100 Westerns of all time; Number one ---------- "The Searchers" John Wayne/ John Ford and Natalie Wood in Monument Valley. If you've ever seen it you know why it was number one. Three movies in one. A Classic in Technicolor. I thought "Open Range" stunk. Kostner's movies are always better when he is acting only, not directing and producing. Prime example------ "Silverado". Robert Duvall was quoted as saying that his part in "Lonesome Dove" was the best role he had in his long career. No doubt. If you remember he had a famous line in "True Grit"; "I call that bold talk for a one eyed fat man".
MDing, The shoot out in Open Range is the most realistic in any movie I’ve seen. True to life, never leave an enemy combatant behind you to later pick you off. I’m not a Costner fan but the gunfight is noteworthy. Also, ANY movie with Natalie Wood is a must see in my head.Many early westerns are firmly rooted in “corn”.

Here is one of the best one liners from a Western..which was also hard to beat as a movie. I didn't like Open Range much. Wyatt Earp was closer to reality than Tombstone, but Tombstone was a much better movie. I like Ry Cooder, but his was the worst version of that song. I like the ones where the lyrics are less subdued. The Searchers was a great movie. I own it. I'm not a huge fan of many J. Wayne westerns though his good ones were good. Unforgiven was also really good.

Also..my favorite line ever from one of my favorite movies..non western though.
I admit the shoot out was good. He made the gunfire sound like "Shane"(shot into a metel garbage can). But the romantic scenes and the over- all storyline didn't do anything for me. Almost like he lifted every Western idiosyncrsy he could find and inserted it into the screenplay. Though shorter I thought the shootout in "Unforgiven" was the best ever. I still watch that movie just for the shootout. All time was the orginal Monte Walsh with Lee Marvin. Not much shootin' but the bronk scene is fantastic. Also falling in love with a whore is more beliveable than Costner's love life. Back to the boards; They look great although I quit riding anything over 9'6" because it takes too long to get to the tip. On those long riders it's not a stroll to the nose, it's a hike.
Ken, great looking board! It seems like you are mastering the “fake glue-up” thing, too.
What are some of the things to watch out for with these long ones in design? I've seen Skip on his riding knee high peelers so I know they work in small waves too. What design aspects for keeping the nose out of the water on takeoff? Std 50/50 rails? HOw do you keep from catching the nose when you swing the tail over? Just wondering what you need to do diff on these really long ones. thx

One Eyed Jacks - Marlon Brando and Karl Malden. I love it when Marlon Brando is looking for Karl Malden after he'd double crossed him and asks the bartender if he'd seen an hombre con nariz grande. Big nose. Old California before all the gringos turned up -you can check the surf in the background in some shots. You coulda had Rincon to yourself.
Very nice Mr. Mellor, dig those hips. Did you do your own stringer glue ups? If not, that was one expensive blank.
John, that’s an interesting, slightly piggish shape in an otherwise gunny outline. I bet it will work insane in some size. And, yes, blank is a beauty.
