THE NEW ONE

After one year thinking on my new project, after a lot of BOARDCAD designs i did, after weeks dreaming with shaping the 2nd board… here it is.

I started with the shape of a mini simmons but i added a mini channel and wings.

It’s a 6’2’’ x 22 1/2’’ x 2 3/4’’ with a 4,50’’ nose rocker and 1.75’’ tail rocker.

Like the first project, the blank i did it by myself because here in Spain shipping costs of a blank are so damn expensive.

It is a PU blank and all the glassing job it was done with poly UV resin and universal tint.

I also did some pannels for the keels fins and a knubster.

The only thing left is fin plugs and sand the whole board.

Here are the pictures of the project.

I’m also thinking on doing the pinline …

nice… looks like you have alot of sanding to  do now

my cuestion is:

after sanding the hotcoat and applying the glosscoat do I have to sand it or “that’s it, that’s all”?

i am thinking to do the pinline after sanding the hotcoat.

I guess that depends how good the glosscoat comes out, eh?  I usually sand and polish, but one time the final coat came out good enough to say that's good enough for me without sanding.

Myself, I do resin pinlines after sanding the hotcoat, then I gloss coat over them.  I think some people do them last.

Thank you Huck, i will do it like u said because i wanna have the pin above the gloss.

I want to try do it with very dark blue tinted resin.

I don’t think it’ll come that good to let it without sand and polish.

Next to do is sand the hotcoat, do the resin “thing” for the leash, do the holes for the fcs plugs, install plugs and glosscoat. After the gloss i’ll sand and polish.

do you mean how did i cut the foam? or how did i cut the stringer’s rocker?

for the first question … with the electric planner and the surform. to do it symetrical i had to glue 2 more stringers on both sides of the foam. i think i don’t have pics of it.

for the second question… i did the stringer with boardcad.

How did you cut the bottom and deck rocker?

My advice…Less boardcad, more time on hand fine tuning…It shows…

Paul that’s just for pro shapers… not for me

Without boardcad instead of a surfboard it’ll came out a hydroplane or maybe a tractor.

It was enough for me doing the blank and shape it without any knowledge about it. maybe after 30 years doing 1 board/year i’ll do everything without any pc help. or maybe not coz i bloody like technology. it’s enough that I do the fins using just paper, pen and fiberglass pannels.

Paul u could give me some free lessons about making (design/shape/glass) surfboards … it was just a joke.

You can use my finFoil application to make your fins!

I use boardcad to estimate volumes. But when it comes to drawing a full scale rocker (or outline), I rely on just a few measurements and a stick of wood that I bend to interpolate the curve.

You don’t want too much parameters to parameterize your board. Having fewer parameters makes the iterative process of finding your magic board easier.

thx Hans, i had it till few days ago when i had to format PC, it’s a interesting app.

when i am in the north of spain where i study i use a lot boardcad because my shaping room is 900km away so i am designing boards every day (dreamin with eyes opened). so now i have 1000 outlines.

maybe for the next one i’ll use a proper blank and no boardcad outline

"Without boardcad instead of a surfboard it'll came out a hydroplane or maybe a tractor."

 CLASSIC !

now show me the fins manuel  er sorry , 'ColinTractor'

" maybe for the next one i'll use a proper blank and no boardcad outline "

..... yay !... NOW you're TALKING !!

  cheers mate !

  ben

sorry sorry i was wrong … for the next one i’ll use my homemade blank again, money talks.

and definitely it’ll be with a 6mm -10mm stringer. i really like to do it on the hard way. aaaah and boardcad for life hahahahahaha

when i’ll finish the fins i’ll put pictures here.

cheers

i did a resin leash loop but i think i’ll have to put some more resin and cloth and do it like a small bridge and after that make a small hall for the leash.

on the next post i’ll put pics of the board done.

UPDATE

finished board and fiberglass keels

Paul is right the computer isn't going to replace craftsmanship.

time to a lil change

One week ago I fucked the fin of this board and I had to surf without it.

Now I’m at home and I will try to fix the mess and also change the board a little bit.

I drilled all the fin plugs. The plan is to glue the foam cylinders with resin and then sand them.

Next step the fiberglass and then a thin hoatcoat.

I’m changing the fin configuration from keels to single+side bites.

When’s done I’ll update the post.

big holes and big cylinders

I rescued the plugs and maybe use them for the side bites
