This Sunday…the 8th, at the Alley (Currumbin), the Fish Fry is happenin. This is an opportunity to see and or ride a very special board…handcrafted with Aloha…by our Swaylock’s sage…Ambrose. Warning…many lives have been altered due to interaction with this Magic Craft.
There’s another thread about the FF. I replied to Lennox (Steve) and said I was unsure whether I’ll make it t the FF. It’s about 50/50 at this stage. If he can’t make it up I’ll be down his way around easter.
Your stoke is beaming through cyber-space. Unless Steve is going to the FF or some other arrangments have been made, it is likely that the travel board will still be residing near a rock lined point south of the border. The cyclone heading down the Qld coast may be able to draw the board north of the border.
Steve brought the board up. I am not sure if the board was surfed on the day but I could be wrong. Steve will look after the board until Easter when I plan to take it a bit further south on a week surfing trip. After that who knows.
Roger took a number of photos and spoke to a guy called Sam who said he picked mangos on Kauai and borrowed boards and learned from you. There were a few folks from Swaylocks there that I met. Feral dave had a stall and some fun looking & experimental boards and I met Dudly the mat rider, who not surprisngly isn’t called Dudley. There were also a number of non-fish boards. Tom W, valla surfboardss & Jason Oliver had spots with wooden boards, and some other folks who I didn’t know were also there. It was a nice mix of old and new, and not so new.
There were some ok waves and it was a fun, sunny day with the weather much better than predicted - the cyclone is still hovering further north.
Hi Ambrose, the travel board is safe and well and living in spitting distance of a great warm water point break.
It’s well loved and cared for here.
Had a nice chat with Dick Van Straalen yesterday.
And an inspiring talk with a young fella called Sam who laid out the Ambrose version of the aloha spirit and made me aware of the special privilege and responsibility of being a care-taker for the travel board.
As you know Bob will come down at Easter time and pick the board up from me…in the meantime it’ll get some more go-outs here and plenty of attention.
Yea, I was there. Had a couple of go-outs and just as the midday sun was doing it’s thing, Roger produced a couple of chilled articles which went down a treat for a good bullshitt session.
Twas a fun day.
New travel board go-out: post cyclone Hamish OH pointbreak, ribs up the face from a devil wind. Got a couple of smooth high lines through the ribs. Like spearing a pterodactyl at pointblank range.
Loving this board more and more.
If and when I get back to the islands I’ll come and see Ambrose and ask him to build me another.
Would be a worthy mission…
The travel board I believe is feeling very much at home here in the southern hemi.
