I hate to be the first one predicting this.
But take my word, one day soon a crazy brazilian or someone foreigner who watches this and will come here prepared.
Will go back to their car after taking such a beating and come back with a 9mm or MAC10 and make us finally wake up here as to why beefing it out isn’t going to last. Will it be a case of self defense or loss of mental capacity after taking a beating like that.
And yea it’ll make the national news but it’ll change things forever…
I’m waiting to see who the first one to get popped will be…
We building enough paranoid crack/batu addicts here to give birth to the next phenomena…
Drive by’s at the beach.
Good way to get rid of the tourists and seasonal surf pro crowd… Waterpatrol would have to take on a new meaning…
I know… Bad karma and all but I tell you it’s coming…
I think the guy didn’t speak Hawaiian. Love the board redesign…
Hicksy
The guy who beat him on the beach knew Brazillian style Jujitsu. I dont think the guy deserved that level of beatdown…im surprised there are no lawsuits. CLearly a lack of control and lack of cognitive skills.
Edit: to add to my post when the guy on the beach established top position or mount as its known in brazillian jujitsu he easily could have controlled him and there was absoloutely no reason to beat the bejesus out of that guy…he also had numbers and could easily have just escorted the guy off the beach or call the cops and have him arrested…very unprofessional.
pretty sad…
at least now the guy who took the beating can copy the vid and press charges… i bet he’ll be glad you posted it.
If a tourist gets assulted on the streets of Waikiki, it would surely make the news. Most likely labled as a hate crime or violence toward visitors. Why are incidents like the Pipe beatdown treated differently. More than a few attacks like this have ocurred in the recent past. With all the photogs on the beach, I’m sure many caught on film. Why no mention in the news or papers???
That’s how u behaved when u have LOW EDUCATION … just another idiot !
Truely - there are some huge assholes on the NS. That blond guy should have left at first brush with the water patrol, but you also could tell that the one he met on the beach played him till he could tell he was weaker, and only then did he start in on him with the jujitsu. Cruel SOB, needs a new hobby or the retribution will get him soon enough. Thank God Karma will teach him.
Unfortunately these pricks make news that sometimes overshadows the really good people that also live there. There was still plenty of Aloha there when I went, but if you go with a big attitude, you usually attract the same.
Sad - very sad.
aloha, if that’s paradise, you can keep it…
Problem that most of these enforcers haven’t learned yet is that a punch in the face or stomach doesn’t equal a bullet to the head or gut…
Doesn’t matter if you’re “connected” or not, these videos and the scenes with Sonny in Northshore boarding house are going to bring some maniac over here one day that’ll just ruin everything.
The “boys” don’t understand what the next permutation of all this violence…
And yet this just doesn’t occcur here…
Ask the pros who surf in Rio against the locals, imagine if that mentality comes over to the northshore…
My old friend Bill Eberwein, after a lengthy batu run, was annoyed by the neighbors upstairs playing music too loudly for him, called them out and stabbed all 3 of them with a butcher knife, one died. He is now out of prison after many years, too much TV violence, people don’t get a chair broken over their heads and come back for more, in real life, it’s a lot more serious
Amen…
now about that swell yesterday (!)
Holy horse-patties batman! Longbeach looked Liked nothing I’ve ever seen before. Better than Hawaii when I was there!
Guaranteed this one will go to a civil suit that will cost the tax payers of Hawaii. It’s a sad commentary of our society.
That was sad… what I thought was really sad was that all those fu**ers with cameras getting their shots and no one stepping in to stop it,the dude could have died… that whole mob scene is why I never go to the north shore during events… the mass of the great unwashed really scare me…
so the guy paddles out at pipe during a contest. but he’s not in the contest.
he refuses to leave the water, when so directed by the water patrol.
when a “local” comes out to assist the water patrol, the guy clearly initiates physical contact with the “local”.
when he finally gets into the beach, he then goes up to 2 locals, and appears incite further physical combat.
the guy he was in a fight with was about his same size. he used a high school wrestling tactic for the takedown.
the fight was a one on one. a real beat down would have involved several guys stomping the crap out of “the guy”.
there didn’t look to be any serious damage to the guy aside from a fat lip and a bruised ego.
so maybe the next time he’ll listen to the water patrol.
they call life the school of hard knocks for a reason.

This was a professional event with security. If i was the promoter i would be furious that i would lose my ass in a lawsuit.

There was more to the story than video shows. PeterG was pretty much right on his observations (at least up to the one about going up to locals on the beach and starting more - looks like they went up to him). The guy was obviously way out of line, totally in public in front of a contest crowd, confrontational, blew off the water patrol, and looks like he threw the first punch at Kainoa McGee who was paddling out to confront him.
Now, does anything about that behaviour sound a little odd? If memory serves me the guy turned out to be bi-polar or something and was off medication. But nobody wanted to see past their dicks and deal with an obviously off-kilter situation like adults. Just another waa waa waa story in the waa waa water, I guess.
I loved the lifeguard asking the victim, once the beating was over, if he was okay. There was security at the event, but none of it was professional.
I bet the guy was trying to get his board back when he got beaten on the beach. Once the local got a hold of his arm, the guy wants to flee and not fight. That was totally sickening, especially with the idiots with cameras right up close. Then everybody laughing and taking pictures after the fact. Some great examples of human nature right there.
Then to snap the guy’s board, might as well have robbed the guy of $500. I agree with the above statement that the guy doesn’t seem to be all there. Especially sitting on the beach in the crowd after the beating. There should be a lawsuit. Even if he was an asshole, he didn’t deserve what he got.
South central with palm tree’s… I spend my hard earned money in better places with …no brainless, uneducated, punks. There is NO EXCUSE !! for that kind of behavior. If that guy came back with a uzi I wouldn’t have benn suprised at all!! What a sorry excuse for humans…Why go to hawaii anyway??? There are much better places to get surf!! F*&K Aloha!!!
