So, You were wondering…What happened to Resinhead? How come he makes no more of dem surfbords?. Well I bought a 20ft surfboard that was a piece of crap, 1978 Boston Whaler Outrage V 20…and turned it into a nice solid boat. All new patched, filled and re coated hull with gelcoat, inside & outside, all new teak, new seats, all new electrical, plumbing, new radio, new GPS/Chart Plotter/Fishfinder. Rebuilt upper end, and Lower unit. gear carrier, seals, gaskets etc… total hours spent on the refit…336 hours. Now if I could only afford the gas. But I’ll be a Ralphs on the first swell, and I’ll get there fast too.
Just finished this little guy. Big thanks to Pierpontscott and Zeph for the glass job!
6’2.5" Bio Foam quad fish with speed dialer canards. Inspired by Bob Mitzven and planshape borrowed from my Campbell Bros. Octafish. I love the Octafish and wondered how it would feel as a quad so, I made one. Of course, the bottom shape, rails and pretty much everything but the outline are different. Bottom contour is slight concave under the nose (very slight), flat mid section to light double concave through the tail.
I decided to go plain Jane on this one since it is an experiment and wanted to keep costs low. Free Bio Foam blank with PE resin and sanded finish. LokBox for the fins.
Just picked it up yesterday so I haven’t had a chance to ride it. Hopefully, I’ll be able to catch some of that South swell this weekend.
Just finished assembling a 10’ x 14’ x 7 1/2 'T PVC coated sheet metal shaping shed in my backyard, soild foundation above ground and all. Now I just need to outfit it for shaping and get mowin!
Any ideas on the outfit? Scheduled activities thus far include:
-mount sound board and paint it blue inside
-put up 1’W shelving
-run electricity 50’ from my house to the shed and put in quad outlets on each side
-get some custom 2-way adjustable shaping racks welded up
-install shopvac system w/ overhead hoses for planer and corner sweep up.
hi there Mr. Resin Head, that there’s a beaut!!! Bet you got a buncha new friends!!! Phone rings…hey Jay, what’s up…long time no see. Ya here about that south coming in…
The wife tells me that the epoxy will not cure any faster if I stand there and look at it…
Don’t believe it! Research shows that staring at curing epoxy makes it harden faster, makes it shinier and creates superior flex response!!! Pacing around helps too!
Current project, well it’s almost finished, should get some pictures…
8’1 eggy singlefin RED
I’ve read somewhere that red boards are faster…
Next project, biaxial glass something or other secret high tech funky vac bag experiment… aka big gunky mess…
Things have progressed a bit since the beginning of this thread. Now we’re up to a 9’0" classic long, a 9’7" long-gun and the “small” 6’6" is on its way to be sanded.
Here’s my latest and greatest project. It’s an egg-shape.
There’s just something about the profile, the curves are so nice. I really like the hips.
I’ve never done anything like it before and so far has been the most rewarding for sure. I’m learning alot. Didn’t really find much answers to my questions in the archives however…
I’ve shaped 2 of those before, and i’ll probably shape another soon. You know, as much as a pain in the arse they can be sometimes, they can give you so much joy its not funny!. It sounds odd, but i really love to do a lot of practice when doing those shapes, not sure why, but i find practising to make those shapes really fun.
