Barry I used a 40 deg cut angle, but I can try turning the bed of my planer more… anyway, I gotta go to a few job interviews, but as soon as I get free time I gotta glass my fish clear, and if I get bold I think I’ll get wacky w swirls of resin ccolors…then to pick up a Sims type blank so I can try out the planing. Thanks again!
Shapa-
Thank you for your method! I just started shaping and I find power planing quite difficult. But I tried out your method and I pulled it off! Thanks you.
One other question. Any way to deal with my stringer poking up? Tia
Clay - thanks for the comps! I’m not as good w planer - like Barry or Deadshaper, but I’ve got surform n dialed! Later try planing techniques as the experts suggested.
For the stringer poking up, what you need is a trim plane. It’s basically a smaller block plane. Set your blade slightly poking out so as to cut stringer… start at the upper area and carefully put a slight angle and all the way out the tail. Just take spine down. Also, take care not to tip your plane and gouge into the foam…should only take a few swipes. Grab a soft sand n sponge w light gr to clean her up. Good luck.
Thanks for the tips!
One of my shaping mentors uses a steel ruler to blend in the vee once its planned and roughed sanded.
I also use blanks with vee already in them so you dont have to take much off
@BarrySnyder (or anyone else) do you happen to have that picture of the bands you posted? It looks like it is no longer available and I’m currently trying to figure out how to replicate vee from board to board in a consistent fashion with the planer. Cheers!
