What's wrong here?

Just came across this promo…co. that seems to specialise in fish…maybe it’s just me …but they don’t seem to go very well…is it the surfers or the boards? …or am i being too critical and these are just average joes…and this is what we all look like when video’d?!

My theory…i think the boards are too floaty…no penetration…i could be talking bollocks tho’…

I’d say it was 95% surfer / 5% board. Put Kelly on one of those and the video would be quite different.

But Average Joe’s can have just as much fun.

The Most Fun belongs to the young of heart. The feelings experienced while actually surfing and those received from watching a video are two entirely different things.

ive seen there add before …they specialize in flat bottom entry level fish. i guess the adds corresponds with there target demographic. . it is a lil dosile huh?

Bruce - nice sentiments…i’m with you…

and…of course if Kelly rode a door he’d do fine…BUT what do you think it is about the boards…that makes them “a little docile”?

“Big Guy” was doing pretty good. Looks to me like recreational surfers and a couple of advanced-beginners. A lot of us probably look like that(not me, of course???). I think it shows these type of boards are pretty easy to surf and have fun in spite of some of the fish snobbery that gets tossed around. Mike

thats how they go

Looks to me like a bunch of average to below average guys who are so used to thrusters they haven’t figured out how to make a fish work. They seem to be surfing off the tail, too much. A fish requires a wider stance, in a more neutral (forward) position.

Funny about some of the comments. When home video first became available, it was always amusing to see yourself on video. Often, you’d show a guy some footage of himself, and he’d say:“That’s not me. I don’t surf like that”.

The truth hurts, sometimes.

i agree with the above. big boy seems to be gettin the fish feel down. all the other guys look like they learned to surf recently on thrusters, and they dont get the pump-front-foot thingy that often is needed to make a fish do its thing.

and yea, if kelly, occy, AI, etc…the board would probably look like the best fish in the world!

i video’d myself alot back in the day. some things i did looked great. other things looked awful, but they felt great…i worked on it by use of video, and i think i was able to get the fish thing down a bit better now…but, it took a little time.

i wonder if the surfers in that video like what they see?

any of you surfers in the video out there? if so, please chime in.

peace…

you boys better start posting some of your own fish surfing to compare

or you might just come across as being full of shit!

those guys looked like normal guys surfing to me

on normal fish boards on pretty average normal surf

“you boys better start posting some of your own fish surfing”

Good idea silly - show me yours first…

Found their website - http://www.9fishsurf.com/beluga.html - check out the thickness…

Boards that are fat and flat will bog down in bigger, good waves. Pretty good waves in these shots. I am not a big fan of fish in surf that is above rib high or so. Fish is for making lemonade out of lemons – a board to catch small mushy waves – more rocker for bigger surf and turn-to-turn surfing. A fish style board with 2.5" tail rocker and a tail around 14" would have a higher top end range. You just cannot get through life with one board. The secret is the right tool for the job.

I had a chance to check out their quad recently when a kid showed up with one at a local spot. The board looked decent enough with a nice planshape and twinzer setup. It didn’t look too thick to me, just very plain and simple. Funny thing was, the kid had the fins reversed on the smaller ones. I asked him how it worked without mentioning the faux pas, and he said it felt a little weird and hard to control. Then told him to switch the fins around and he might notice a pleasant change.

flat bottom, thick rails, wide, little to no taper in the deck -tail. . . makes for a board thats a little less willing to go rail to rail. . . but like i said . thats there target audience. . . cats who might otherwise be catered to by an entry level long board and such a longboard with its added swing weight may restrict the progressive advancement into a shorter , more fine tuned shape. like shine said. versatility. . . thats where its at.

how many shapers does it take to screw in a light bulb. . ??? 100. . . 1 to do it and 99 to say "you know , theres a better way to do that". . truth is . . there is no right shaper. . . the right question would be is that the right shape for that rider?

Looks like the boards should go alright. Probably more a case of user error.

I think this is how they should be ridden…

MHO:

Those shapes are pretty average… the shot with the guy running the board up the beach looks like someone chopped their nose rider in half and cut a tail… doesnt really blow my hair back…

Ive been looking at Zippi Fish… totaly blown away by them… also a couple made by PM look the goods tho I havent seen them ride.

The surfers also look like they are wishing they were on thrusters… surfing way too far back on the boards but the shapes dont encourage standing over a forward wide point… just a bit wierd… like there was no commitment in the design to nail a particular aspect.

I like my fish wide forward of centre by a good 4" or 5"… I like them to encourage a forward leaning drop knee rail grab as you fly down the face… thats what blows my hair back… yehaaaaaaa!!!

rif.

i am going to have to agree with user error…

wow, i have not seen anyone ride a board so poorly since a friend of mine from Minnesota first learned to surf

i like around 35 seconds into the clip how the guy does the stand/ squat/ stand

pumping method…

reminds me of my dog being indecisive about going in my yard or my neighbors yard

i still cant figure out wot the f$%K youse are on about

its just some people surfing on some surfboards

whats with the running sports commentary

obviously your all rippers and guru board builders

oh i’m a ripper…

just ask my friends how much i rip

they’ll tell you not to hang around after four alarm chili night =D

At least they can stand up!!!

Repeat after me “Surfing is fun”
