Hey, Duds! Very nice carves. excellent.

i drop in on Tyler, and his buddy on the green Harbour longboard hops onto the shoulder in front of me. What a bunch of kooks we are.
nah, tyler was yelling at both of us to go.

great session that evening, i can’t believe we had it all to ourselves.
JD Bailiff pulled up and was out in 2 secs.

It looks like you had fun glassy mat waves. But purist pecker davidson won’t be happy of course , because he will comment that you are riding them boogie board style , I’m sure. (But as drewtang’s signature says…)
fully inflated , "go hard or go home’ Peta

The Dale was togetherness
This just meant another session that night for Dudley and El Nino – tireless!!
El Elbow Strikes Again!!
You can tell the Gnome is from San Diego, he’s spending too much time at Matland watching scott kurth aka el elbow boy.
Too bad there isn’t any photo proof of the midnite session, young Skywalker was goin nutso, i was playing conservative matrider, feeling a little like bait with the mat and UDT’s only slightly resembling a seal, but still got my share of sparkly moonlit walls, every bit as good as the evening session, with 98percent less crowd.
Mark, where is the wave I ran you over on??
I hope there’s evidence
Okay…almost instantly one of the largest archives of mat surfing photos and a good one of kneeboarding…thanks for taking the time to post it all…I hope everybody realizes that this one thread has more photographic coverage of these two forms of waveriding than has appeared in probably all the major surf magazines of the world…ever!
Amazing! I was sorry to reach the bottom of the page and run out of pics to oogle. Buy photos from Joel. I second that “thanks for posting these”.
excellent excellent - loving it.
MOW some more questions:
Did you used to ride KBs, and can you describe difference in feel from KB to FlxSp?
markgnome is wearing some trippy looking socks - what art they - how thin - and were can you buy online?
DUDs - no sweat – the Whitey is one of the few day feeding sharks. He’s more a visual hunter than most other sharks. ( least that’s what i saw on Discovery channel )
saludos,
jc
You’re all welcome! I’ll try to keep up the pace.

lol No photographic record, duds. Only evidence is your tire tracks on my head.

Yes, I started out riding kb’s. The difference, to put it delicately, is like protection vs no protection.
Didn’t Mark say those modifications were done by him? (anybody)
…The difference, to put it delicately, is like protection vs no protection…
OK! I can relat to that.
I’m loving all these great photos. Thanks for all the hard work MOW!. Can anyone provide a link to the guy (Joel?) that took thses photos?
Bailiff here, Though the mat may look fully inflated it is most assuredly not! Perhaps my ample bodyweight forces the air to the rails more “efficiently”. I have to crunch the outside corner to fill the rail for climbing the face since I under-inflate for down-the-line speed. The bigger the surf, the lower the air volume for me. “Boogieboard style”? I am unfamiliar.

Gladly. He deserves it. joelmayer@sbcglobal.net

I think he’s talking about riding head up as opposed to the gg standard, chin down
Id say head up and a bit farther back on the board
sometimes but not in Jd’s case with elbows digging down into mat .
its very hard to unlearn this style its important to remember that the mat pretty much will not pearl . you can ride, with your head even to the mat’s front at times felt as if i was alot farther over the front then even with it.
if you have the air too deflated to the point you cant climb up the floppy fabric in the back its hard to get in this position…
the best advice i can give to feel the feeling of proper position very fast is put your thumbnails on your nipples, nose even to the front of mat and get your elbows up higher then your back .
you can try riding in alot of different styles wounded duck, normal, even handed.
hugging rails.
wounded duck with a bit of extra body tilt like george in the fantase footage.
there are alot of ways that work, some better then others .
the ones that feel like the elbows up, even hand position i described work really well

Man o’
thanks heaps for these shots !
this is , for me , an educational photo journal as good as 'Oldy’s great quad thread !
It’s really interesting to see the different mats , mat riding styles , positioning , and waves !
now I see why the previous comments I have read on other threads about winged keels not being big over there …that kelp looks fairly heavy duty !
keep up the go[o]d work and photos , man’o’ !
cheers !
