7' Step Up build thread

I got some time in on the board today

But first I went and splerged on a heater for the garage

got a nice oil filled unit for 36 bucks at BigLots

it warmed up the garage quite well

so I went at it

I brushed on a fill coat over the deck just past the lap line

it gelled in about 20 minutes

then the sun popped out and I stuck it in the sun to let the UV cat work it faster

and shot a few pics

tomorrow I will sand it to see how level I can get it

if I have to give it one more coat to level it out I will do it

heres the latest pics

ken was that the ‘omg incredible moment?’

cant wait to see the gloss coat

happy birthday young man!

I knew youd catch on sooner or later,, HaHa

yes you inspired me

I think I mentioned on one of your post's that I was gona try tis but with resin colors

I'll get to that some day

Ken,

You took it to a whole new level, simply beautiful. Now you got my gears turning for a wooden inlay board, can't wait to see it finished, now it's my turn to be inspired.

Thank you

Tom

OK all

I need your input as I'm a bit hung up and cant decide on the pinline color and exactly how much pin lineing to do

I have a few idea's but I dont want to over do it

My thoughts are just a pinline around the cutlap In black or maybe brown

I dont want to pinline the wedges because they are straight and true

Your thoughts please,,,,,,,,

also I lammed the deck today with a layer of 6oz as the sanding went well and the deck came out nice and even

Should I go ahead and leave it or do the 4 or 6oz stomp patch or full layer????

heres a few pics of today

while you guys were out,,,,

I decided to do a 3/4 6oz deck patch zip cut a little below the rail apex

(hope you dont mind)

And thats all the glass its gonna get

with the veneer and 6oz fillers I think it will be very dent resistant

hares a few shots of the patch and zip cut (I realy like doing those)

wow ken that is amazing

thanks Silly

I gave the deck a sand coat

this is getting kind of boreing I know.,,,,

But I could sure use some sugestions on the pinlines,,,,,

 is there anyone there???????

Looks like you have your glassing skills down.  If it were me I’d probably do a orange or red pin.  Stay with a warm color.  I still can’t see you waxing that though.  It’s a work of art.

silver or pine green…maybe both

Ken

Call me crazy, but I would put yellow and white pinlines to give it that clean look without taking away from the beautiful inlays.

Tom

Dang that’s nice!

My 2c,

Red wine or purplish-brown pins.

Just to be helpful, orangy-red...would look like red-tinged sky as the sun sets.

Surprisingly, the black didn’t look good-- it overpowered.

As for the colors, **white, yellow, or brown ** would be best…

haha or you could just leave it as the rainbow ?

Ken

Can you shoot pics when the board is out in the sun?

Karl has a great eye for colors, his advice sounds good

Something darker yes, but not too much, or the contrast is too high

Yellow and brown have nearly the same GREY tint.

Do tests with pinline colors on papers, take pics in black/white and compare

Did i say yet the board looks awesome?!?!

Two pinstripes touching.    Red next to the lap, and yellow next to the wood/deck panel.    Makes a sharp visual.     Same could be said for blue and yellow.    Use the same yellow as the bottom.

My vote goes with BT. Red/yellow double pin. A classic deckside pin on yellow tint bottom and rails with clear deck. With the inlays it'll look insane.

Emerald green. Fine with wood, fine with yellow.

You shouldn't have asked: how are you gonna choose, now that everybody has given a different choice? Colors are so personal...

Can you shoot pics when the board is out in the sun?

a few post's up I posted this shot
