a Tsunami relief party on Kauai

very true keith melville! kalapaki beach is one of the spots i learned to surf . safe and easy adn sometimes gets really good, contrary to what some people might think. like i said ill give some boat cruise people a call and helicopter guys as well. ill let you know this afternoon my progrees. did i tell yall about 260 RT from oakland on travelocity? hey what date were we narrowed down to? and yes to lydgate park being a great spot for luau or beach dinners a few nights a week. we can post the news and spread the word around to everyone while there here. also … can we advertise around to locals here about the raffle in order to raise more money? i was gonna only put a few signs up in surf shops to those who are interested. or is that too much? maybe we want to keep it only swaylock members? hobcawannie

Howzit hobcawannie, I think we should not keep it just for Swaylockians only since we are also in a tsunami zone ourselves. More people means more money for the cause and that’s what it’s all about. I’ve been talking with some shapers and glassers about attending and handshaper and his partner are going to attend and show their new fin system which is a good one. I just installed my first set and found it easy to install and very sturdy. I also have told Charlie from HSC and Bobby from Kai Kane that I will be hitting them up for prizes, also need to talk to Mormai about prizes. I will probably only attend the north shore part due to other commitments. Aloha,Kokua

great kokua!

your a great contact for north shore. and im glad you agree to invite some other locals to the events. ill print up some flyers as soon as i find out the dates. or actually maybe i can just have the date pending… lets get the island involved. also ill call kkcr whith more details too. ive got 2 for 1 certificates in my hand for luau’s, boat cruises, kayak, and atv. buy 1 ticket get 1 free. but i want to get some single free tickets fro all of these as well as for teh helicopter. i made a few calls today… its sunday . no management around so ill be calling again tommorow. talk to you later… call me if you need to. hobcawannie

Howzit hobcawannie, we’re definitely “ON” for the weekend of April 22nd, 23rd, 24th (that’s Fri/Sat/Sun). I’m also around monday if anybody’s still interested in planning anything then - or maybe that’s just a good day to recover & free surf.

Was thinking maybe we could raise a few more bucks by offering free (i.e., donations only) surf lessons in Nawiliwili harbor, since its nice & easy there… not sure if I’m bringing the right boards for that though, if the swell would be right, or how many takers we’d get. Might just play that one by ear…find the right location & wave conditions…

Howzit Keith, Surf lessons is a great idea but there are a lot of people doing them and it’s really a competetive business here. Once again we would have to deal with the county for a permit and any instructors ahve to be CPR licensed and then there’s the insurance thing. The guys doing it are making loads of money and they are protective of their areas and I’ve even heard of threats between the companies. Aloha,Kokua

good.

sounds great! i need probably 2 motnhs to get everything going too. i wanted to tell you and others so ill post it as well. a friend of mine manages a hotel in nawilliwilli harbor right across the street from kalapaki beginner break. it shoud be a good time of year for some minor surf but if its not breaking there are many small spots on the east side that should be breaking, they pretty much break during this time. ambrose is the one to ask. he does surflessons on the east side , mainly at kauai sands . a small break only a few miles from kalapaki. oh yah, that hotel has condos that rent for max 155.oo a night and they sleep 6 people!!! 3 couples really. 3 double beds anyways. if you mainlanders want to get up with other guys that you know already there pretty nice and close by and super cheap…thast 25 bucks a night. but youll wanna book as far in advance as you can. i know that is open though bc i just spoke with her.they aslo have large rooms on top floor with i king bed and a few singles . sleeps like 5. 135 a night and 5 for extra people. good for families, all of those ones. already i have gotten a a few prizes here is the list

tickets with:

captain andy’s boat cruise

2 for 1 luau at gaylords, coconut beach, and aloha beach resort.

2 for i kayak trip on wailua river.

and that was vey easy to do. today ill be doing most of the heavy promoting. only so much i could do on sunday.keith, ya know what i need… is a some type of proof that the orgainzation is for real. some of these companies want me to fax or send via email to them to tell them all about what they are promoting. is there anything put together that i could send them. if not ill try to make something up . let me know on this. and we need to eventually take count of all the prizes then on the 24th of april( the big raffle day ?) we’ll have everything together. i kinda want to make a list of everyhting here on paper. i need to get with kokua for north shore prizes! ok i need to get started! yahooooooooooo. im excited . and aurf lessons will be fun too. talk to you later today hobcawannie

hmm, lessons sounds like a no-go then, too much hassle for a day or two.

Maybe one of the established guys, if they make a lot of money at it, might be willing to donate a share of their profits for a day, though… certainly would be good publicity for them.

Howzit hobcawannie - OK, how do you prove to someone Swaylocks exists? Point them to a computer screen I guess. 2500 members and growing every day (click on who’s online & you can get the member list count). You can give them names of shapers & glassers on Kauai that are participating too… keep it up, remember its for a good cause.

aloha,

Keith

I’d likely go. Also have a studio for rent in Kapaa at www.hempeys.com

depending on dates, maybe can comp a couple nights for the charity.

hempey, why havent you told me about your apartment for rent??? i need one. i live kawaihau at the moment. very cool that you are donating it for tsunami relief. im gonna do some advertising soon!

OK, here’s a question for you, Kokua, Ambrose, whoever else wants to chime in. What’s the better raffle prize, a longboard, a longboard semi-gun, or a mid 7’ thruster? I have one of each and am pondering…

LONG BOARD.

Howzit Keith, I don't think it matters what kind of board. I'm not sure a long board would bring in any more money than a shorty but it would make a difference in the cost to make it. Looks Like I'll have to work a contest that weekend since we've had to cancel some dates due to a wedding on 1 of the previous dates and then there's a funeral for a good friends 9 year old son who died in an accident last weekend. Had a good long talk with Ambrose and the thing we need to work out is the raffle particulars. He was telling me how John M. had to hassle with the tickets for the last Big Sur meeting. I've got a coupole of ideas as how to make it easier. Aloha,Kokua

Howzit Kokua - sent you a PM about raffle details. Also I just got a donation of a painting from a local artist here, he’s even willing to crate it & ship it to Kauai for the raffle. Just need an address… are either you or Ambrose interested in having a painting show up at your place (I think shipping to a business address is cheaper, right?). Aloha,

Keith

PS very sorry to hear about your friend’s son. That’s a really incredibly hard thing for any family…

Howzit Keith, Would probably be better to send to Ambrose since he has a business address.Aloha,Kokua

Howzit Kokua, sounds good, I’ll see if Ambrose is interested.

By the way, if anyone’s interested, here’s the artist’s web page, check it out:

http://www.greggutierrez.com/Art%20Work.htm

this oughta sell some raffle tickets…

hey keith ,

i just got a call form ambrose ,im gonna take a look at the poster that he designed and try to get a park pass for the camp site today. im gonna try and get that poster scanned to you today or tommorow so if you wanna do t shirts you can. anything else i can do to help?

we need to put together a list of raffle prizes, you can PM me if you want.
