Thanks for answering my questions. The use of this powder really interests me. Thanks Chip.
Now I’m wondering how the hemp turns out. Know anyone who uses them?
hiya tblank !!
thanks for your questions !
yes , among a couple of my friends , i also use hemp fins , from time to time !
i think they turned out well
..... in fact , 'moonfish' has a pair of hempys in his [wood veneer / carbon fibre / eps /epoxy-finished ] board , at present . He said he 'liked how they felt ' , on crowded saturday , and got a few turns in on them, apparently ...
moonie , are you here mate ?
i hope you get to take them to Queensland with you ?
tblank , i foiled the ones moonman is currently using pretty THIN , so they have some flex in them
but i also have a thicker pair i made a while ago , in a pat rawson size template , which are MUCH stiffer ....
....do you use probox or fcs ? [perhaps i could send you either the cloth , a panel , or a pair of fins , if you like ? [i also have SMALL...'GS' sized] hempys too!] ]
okay.... i hope this helps ?
cheers mate !
ben
Hi Ben, Thanks Heaps! You were reading my mind, I like a single Flex fin and wondered how the hemp performs. Love the variety of probox but the fcs’s are easier for me to install. Of course, for a flexie I use a box with trailers. Seems as though there is a lot of innovating in Oz… Good On 'Ya.
no worries
wouldn't it be great to give dane reynolds some different fins and boards to try
watching the stuff of him in the dvd 'the present' , it looks like he is an interesting guy / surfer ....
Haven’t seen the dvd, but he may be open to new ideas. I’ve only seen him around don’t know him. I’m more a contemporary of his Dad. You can tell a mile away when there is a pro in the lineup. The Malloy Bros. seem to be interested in innovation.
...the good news is...
I was provided with a jigsaw and carborundum blades last weekened , so I can now get to work on cutting out some fins. The banks around here have not formed for winter swells yet , so lots of straighthanders and closeouts. However , a couple of neighbour brothers took their boat out to the island on sunday . I gave Richo the lime green twinnys to try out , as he had cheap and nasty rubbery flexy fins on his Firewire , and a single-foild back fin {?! yikes!]
so it will be interesting to hear how he went [might have to make him a double foiled lime green back fin , methinks!]
the red, yellow , and black panel has now been templated , off the original 'Wildy's you sent me , Greg ...the cabosil-cored , epoxied ones.....
...to be continued ....
This one used red pigment , diluted enough to make it a red tint . [ A previous panel I posted used red pigment ]
whats the layout there chipfins61? a piece of glass and some kind of tray? looks awesome btw.
hi Pico !!
yep , the glass is for laying up the fins ...
the 'tray' is merely cardboard , to keep all the messy resin , pigment and MEKP away from the bench
cheers
ben
does it go off on cardboard and then you peel it off? Some of these are so beautiful in a chaotic sort of way. I’d like a container I can pour excess resin into when laminating then pop the whole mess out and foil some fins. Thanks for the trade secrets.
no worries mate
no trade secrets here ...
umm i guess if i WAS really messy , i could spill more on the cardboard , but i prefer not wasting resin , it's expensive !!
thanks for checking out my blogsite too by the way mate , always good to know people ? maybe enjoy looking at photos ? as much as i enjoy taking them ?! ....[ now i'm off to post some more there ...]
cheers
ben
" made with the remaining red tint from the 'Huie' corecell panel...
this small panel now looks like this ....
me gusta!
Hey chip,
I really like that last one… Looks like an abstract painting of a stormy day looking out over the ocean. Lightning coming down.
Love your work.
