post Hull pics

A little experimentation on my go-to board (i ride this one in all conditions except heavy beachbreaks)…I rode it as a singlefin for 2 1/2 months or so, and ive ridden it with this setup 4 or 5 times now…

and…?(how does it surf?)

SG80: that is nuts. beautiful… yea howzit surf.

i’d guess that without the flex single fin tho, it would’n’t feel like the trad hull… but it’s bladey and beautiful nonetheless. awesome work.

Im seriously rethinking what I know about hulls since thee fins have found their way onto my board…

drives hard off the bottom still, Im not feeling a huge change in normal waves w/regard to that; aside from the flexing slingshot effect being gone (although in normal waves that effect is lessened alot).

Anyways, it goes well off the bottom, alot of projection when you get the rail burried…the biggest result (what I was looking for) is the ability to pivot off the lip…we all know what singlefins do off the top…The keels allow it to come around when you connect or want to make a tight carve.

Full rail cutbacks arent really there anymore, which Is okay for me because i surf this board is all conditions, I dont always have a big open face when I want to turn…I like going more vertical into sections, but dont like shortboards so much;

so this has allowed me to kindof combine the different styles that I enjoy…fully engaged bottom turn, rail burried, trim high on the wave, drop, and carve off the tail more than burrying the rail in order to turn…

I realize that im losing some of the ‘essential’ hull characteristics, but ill give up the elusive, once a session full-railed hull cutback for a nice hard carve off the top on nearly every wave…im really stoked on it so far; but keep in mind its all for my own surfing…I dont know how well MY needs within surfing fit into other hull riders’ needs.

Brand new camera…battery won’t charge. Pics later. Looks like Ryan’s board but pulled nose and a swallow tail. It’ll be a keel twin fin.

Just like Ryan, I’m looking for something that will release off the top easier.

Could I ask hull freaks (especially Liddle’s) on your fin placement?

I just got my Inbetweener and have been trying to figure out best

fin placement for me… The images show my current fin placement

where is 12inch from the tail block. I already tried the extreme fin set up

(move the fin forward till top end of the fin box) but I could not even

make a bottom turn…

Any information would be appreciated.

My fin is a 9.0W.

hey surferguy80 please could you tell us the dimensions of your board - thanks

6’5 x 22 1/2 x 2 7/8 (or 3") I cant remember on that last one…but its probably closer to 2 3/4 now with the pressure dents

Here’s the current archive (I think I have a severe case of hullatosis…)

From left to right in the photos below: 7’11" Andreini Vaquero, 7’8" Liddle, 7’5" Klaus Jones, 7’4" Liddle, 7’4" Liddle, 7’4" Liddle, 7’0" Anderson, 6’10" Liddle & 6’8" Liddle.

I took photos of each of these boards individually (deck, bottom and profile) and will post over the next day or so with some descriptions, details, thoughts, criticisms, etc.

EDIT: Oh yeah, right after I took the two shots with all the boards lined up against the fence, a little gust blew through the yard and knocked all the boards over down the line like a set of dominoes. Doh! Luckily, no dings, just a bunch of wax on the bottom of each board.

2nd EDIT: went back and updated the photos with better resolution images.

Paydirt!

good god!

Riddler1970,

Move it up 3/4" to 12.75" or 13".

This is working for me right now on a 7’6" Liddle.

Jim

I like the “74” Liddle, 7’4" Liddle, 7’4" Liddle".

I think you need another 7’4" Liddle to make the quiver complete.

Jim

the folks at supersurfscrew.com came through – without hesitation they sent me two new finscrews for the one that was defective.

NicoSB: great hull quiver – where do you get the time to surf them all? looking forward to seeing individual pics, and hearing where you prefs are for surfing them. ( wave type )

late,

I know, I know…

For a while I just had the super tan 70’s 7’4." Then about a year ago I borrowed the third 7’4" from a fellow Swaylocker for a few waves. It flew! I begged him to sell it to me but he wouldn’t budge at the time so I phoned up KP and described the board I’d just ridden.

He said he had one similar so I snatched it up (it’s the 2nd 7’4") and rode it a lot over the last year. Then about a month ago the afore-mentioned swalockian agreed to sell me the 7’4" that I wanted. So I scooped it up and have been trying to get it dialed in since.

Once I do, I’ll probably (well, if I can get myself to) sell the 2nd one. You can’t tell all that well in the photos but they’re both almost the same dimensions. Although the third one is flatter and more bladed. It rides like a very different animal.

Will post pics of the two shortly.

i recognize that one 7’4" as it was one i had made that is very parallel rails - made to go straight as fast as possible…

“You can’t tell all that well in the photos but they’re both almost the same dimensions. Although the third one is flatter and more bladed. It rides like a very different animal.”

Yeah. I have a bladed 7’6" Liddle that I own and another 7’6" Liddle that I’m borrowing from a friend. The outlines are very similar but they are very different to ride.

Jim

Dims are: 7’4" 17 3/4", 22, 15 1/4" 2 7/8" thick.

This has been my main hull for the last year or so. I’ve only ridden it in right-hand pointbreaks. It works best in waves around the chest to shoulder high range. As it gets bigger, I begin to feel like it’s too much board to keep under control. If it’s smaller or soft, it doesn’t really get up and go.

I ride the fin at about 13- 13.25" up (this is the distance from the tip of the tail to the rear trailing edge of the base of the fin). The fin I ride in it is a 9.0 wisp of a fin from GL that has been super foiled to give it a lot of flex. I probably couldn’t use this fin in bigger waves even if I wanted to; it’d probably fold in half!

It turns really well, hauls ass, etc. I’ve been quite happy with it and have no major complaints. It’s probably one of the more neutral Liddles that I have; it’s pretty forgiving, it’s lighter and it has more nose rocker. My desire to get a more extreme one partially led me to the board in the next post.

You’ve got a good eye Matt, I scooped up that one and the 7’5" KJ (which I think was also previously yours) on seperate occasions from Scott (or Scotty Sunday as we call him at Rincon since he only shows up to surf on Sundays :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: ).

Anyway, I’m still trying to figure out this 7’4". It’s faster, it feels great on bottom turns but I find myself getting hung up on cutbacks. I’ve been playing around with a couple of different fins (my favorite GL fin and then a dirt template fin), putting them at about 12.75 to 13.25" but just can’t quite seem to find the perfect setup yet.

Maybe your point about it being designed to go as fast as possible in a straight line is key here…

Anyway, here’s a couple of shots.

Dims are 17 3/4", 22 1/4", 15 1/4" 3 1/4" thick
