HULL YEAH!
Tomorrow as well…
6’1" x 22" x 3 1/8" Paul Gross Designs
A stand up version of the Velo kneeboard.
Bound for Spain.
Spence, i think that’s the one i rode and fall in love inmediately! The waves where really bad and the kind of board takes some time to get used to, but Charlie is a cool guy and a devote hull lover. I would love to own one just like that one!
Each bottom turn on that vehicle is fun as hell!
This was the first and only time i tried a hull, and i know now after those 30 minutes of joy that i can’t die without owning one from Paul or Spence.
Very cool. Now you know.
hey Coque: i see the PG siglo21-looking board … sweet.
but what about those two other boards on the beach you posted pics of? who/what/when/where?
hey I like the bottom turn pic too.
dan- i’ll try to make it but gotta be at work by 9am. i got to do something about that job- it so gets in the way of my surfing. have fun, be kind, bring your airhorn. steiny
Oh no, I gotta pay the bills! I might however, get in the h2o around 4ish on wed.; it was great sharing a few with you the other day, dansan, and thanks for the link to the hull article, I learned alot. It’s funny about that stuff, I could read it all day, it really holds your interest - like hulls themselves.
Have fun tomorrow!
as little john says," ah…yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh!"
steiny…i know…i know… working for others sucks…that winning lotto # can’t come soon enough.
especially since the wife is 2 months preggo…we have a 2 1/2yr girl…so we’re done!
vonw- oh tell me about it…my wife shakes her head as re-read…and re-read those articles…
watch those vids…time stands still
anyway…since i’m a medical sales rep…i can jimmy with my schedule some days…
unlike tonight…i’m still doing paperwork in my office…so i’ll be there 9/10am…
just can’t decide 6.10 spence…7.6 liddle…or 8.0 bojo…my toyota van is in the shop…
so i can only bring one…
9N78W,
What: the board with the green fin is the 6’1’’ Spence posted, i believe
The board with the red fin is a 9'4'' also from Paul Gross and it's a lot of fun also!
When, ummm i can’t remember now, was it a year back or so?
Where: at Cantabria, north of Spain.
Who: Charlie Restegui, a good guy i contacted through Swaylocks. He’s a cool guy, hull lover, kneeboarder, stand up surfer, mat rider, spoon rider, VW van rider, with a good taste for the music and art. I think i have some photos of him surfing at home, i’ll check it later, i’m now at the office.
Did i say that those hulls where a lot of fun?
hey tell me – what is it you notice most riding those ‘extreme’ hulls? you must catch rails and hangup a bit more, but the turns must feel pretty good uh?
WHAT!?
OKAAAAAAY!
lil john references on swaylocks…lulz
That wasn’t my board acutally. It was for Florian. Posted by KP’s request.
Ask Matt about the ‘extreme’ hulls. His shape is the 19" nose 14 3/4" tail, ultra-bladed point machine. They aren’t made for cutting back… Just going fast.
I have a bladed 7’6" but less extreme outline (17 3/4" nose, 15" tail). It does feel different than a fuller railed Liddle. Less foam and a little more sensitive. Not always what you want. I’m borrowing a friend’s 7’6" (18" nose, 15" tail) with more “normal” Liddle rails and it seems to work better in most conditions. Paddles better too. A little more foam I guess.
Jim
rode that extreme machine today at ground zero. 5 people out-4 on liddles…
There’s a 7’8" Liddle on Santa Barbara Craigslist for $500. The guy says its only about 2 months old and still like new.
of those 4 other people on liddles, were they people you knew, and were they long-time hull riders?
yes…kinda fun to be able to watch other hullers once in a while.don’t get to that often…
oh. since we were talking about hulls being ‘en vogue’ these days, i was wondering if the guys out with you were new to hulls. i guess you must’ve been at one of the great hull spots – cuz hulls the majority in the water?..yea i keep saying i’d love to see some others ride hull, and hinting at some hull types to come take a trip down here. ( something i don’t normally do - haha)
one was an old timer and great surfer/shaper-tony masiel. the other two have been at it for a few years(younger blokes in their late 20’s)
Proneman’s 8’4" Baby Simmons twin fin in action.
I saw the same exact thing this morning at Malibu (Roger on the Baby Simmons). Looks cool when he takes off on his stomach and spreads his arms out. Only his stomach touching the board. Looks like he’s Superman flying.
I saw one other guy on a hull when I went out besides Roger. Then Gamboa came out and he rode a longboard for a few waves then got his hull and rode some waves. Then got back on his longoboard. So total of 3 hullers (Roger, Gamboa, and the other guy I don’t know). And that’s at Malibu. Tons of fishes and longboards though…
