post Hull pics

that board looks crazy sexy cool

Send pictures of someone actually surfing the board. That’s the test for these one off’s. It’s so easy to say they look cool, but really, it’s about how they surf.

  1. i was checking out my fish just a few minutes ago, and wondering how a bead like what i did to my hull would affect it. i noticed the inside of the butt crack, it’s not got rounded edged, but rather like a small chine. So while it’s not 90 degrees, it’s not truly rounded either. ya think this chine is doin the same thing as the bead you’ve been putting on yr hulls? have you put the bead on anyother boards?

  2. all this talk about put multi fins on a hull recently, and how you wouldn’t get the same fin loading/twang effect as you do with a flex single… but did anyone address keels with cutaway, for more flex??

i know kp and tim bowler did some flex keel stuff long ago-kp-chime in here…

5’11" GeeBee being born

Man. You’re two for two, Q.

Keep it comin’ with the pics of that stub.

rode my 8 footer yesterday and had a blast!no surf today as i had to help cook b-fast for a 150 ultra-runners up at the ranch in rose valley-quite a crew-from all over the globe. they ran 100 km’s non-stop, in the hills from ojai to santa paula and back.kinda looks fun to me!

i wouldnt be putting my time and energy into making them if they didnt surf well for me.

i dont surf with a photographer, most of us dont, but heres what ive got on my purple hull, theyve already been posted in this same thread, but ill put them up special for you (ill post pics riding the new one when I can, today was my first session on it so itll be a bit).

about 90% of this thread is photos of boards not being surfed, why is there a problem with mine?

Greg Liddle’s got about 40 years on you.

It’s all good

what mexico video? i havent gone to mex. since I was 13…?

I dont want to ruin this thread with mindless arguing over useless sh*t anymore, it is simply titled:

“Post Hull Pics”

putting my photos on a thread with photos of a respected shaper’s isn’t some kind of threat to anyone…im just sharing my learning.

its not just for liddles, ill call mine something other than “hulls” if thats what you want,

i dont really care, im done. ill see you in the water.

Wassa matter EPac? Got an in grown hair on your hiney?

I would think this thread has room for board pics made by “novice” hull shapers to “master” hull shapers and everything inbetween. I love my Liddles but I would definitely post pics of hulls I shaped if I ever got around to shaping one.

serious…god forbid we encourage fellow members in their adaptations and innovations.

there have been a few other folks posting pictures of their own renditions without

a legal footer ‘paying respect’.

it should be “Why The Beef?!”

Greg Liddle’s got about 40 years on you. You’ve got balls posting your first ones on the same pages. I’ve seen the mexico video. nothing going on there surerguy80. I’ve seen your shaping video with the planner sniping the template. What else?

“sniping”

What’s that?

EDIT: oh: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sniping

Wow. Huh.

What’s your trip…Skip?

Since when do YOU decide who should post what, and where, and whether or not it’s appropriate?

Why do you continue to snipe this kid. He’s working is ass off and trying his best to learn different designs. He’s young and new on the scene, so what? Everyone is one at one point, even your celebrated heroes.

I’ve seen his shapes firsthand and they’re not bad. Especially for someone who just started shaping a few years ago. Let him do his thing and let’s see where it leads. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I agree, I thought one of the premises of this website is backyard shaping. Even GL encourages others trying to shape. I know he encouraged me to try years ago.

“imitation is the greatest form of flattery”

This following statement is just a statement and I do not want to offend so I have tried to be as careful in my wording as possible:

I also feel that just because an idea has been tried before, or did not work for one surfer, does not mean it cannot work for someone else.

Example: Yater was one of the first (yes I acknowledge Simmons) to try the “spoon” stepdeck, yet everyone in the 60’s tried their own copies and at this time I feel that others make more functional versions.

A lot of what is communicated here is opinions, I do feel that personal attacks have no place in this forum. I do not agree with all opinions here but I respect the opinions enough not to attack those stating opinions. Sometimes the opinions might sway my own perceptions, and sometimes I might try to change others opinions by I try to use civility.

OT…

perhaps the woodworking definition of ‘snipe’ is applicable here as well, since it’s

related to planing.

I tried to explain it, but the internets have done a better job here:

http://www.woodezine.com/08_2004/0804_snipe.html

I imagine the same could be true for hand planers.

ryan…you’re doing a very good job,

and i’m very happy

with the 6.8 stubbie /hull you shaped me in november

ignore him.

skippy…didn’t see any photos of you surfing

and

forum rules

  1. no personal attacks…oops guess that doesn’t apply to you

2)stick to the topics of the various forums… ditto

some things that will make you unpopular

  1. talking too much…ditto

  2. being a 'know it all" ditto

  3. repeasting yourself ditto

  4. rudeness ditto

6)SHOUTING DITTO!

you want a real enemy/cause/crusade?

how about the type of guy who sued paul jensen?

or a big wave surfer who justified tow-in by saying he’s paddled enough in his lifetime, but now

is only seen on standup epoxy boards…with all that paddling he needs his own cologne?

or a shaper who moved to makaha,

and ranted to jeff george(not that i care for him either) against pop-out epoxy/surftech,

and yet can be seen riding epoxy boards…standing up no less?

i bet the last two would saying the timing wasn’t right before, but it’s perfect now.

owl chapman got one thing really right,“nothing is perfect, just convient”

saddle up don quixote and go get’em!

Hey guys!,

I think Skip should have the right of posting a bad (misunderstood?) post, just like me, just like everyone… not all my posts were humble and mellow and i regret some of my words, but like Owl Chapman said “nothing is perfect…”. Skip is a long time contributor and a surf session with too many popouts and a couple jetskis can ruin anyone’s session and anyone’s humor for that matter.

By the way, the guy can surf, and his wife will outsurf me any day, any time.

Skip, i think i missed something in your post, but the guy is just a passionate surfer shaper who’s sharing stoke, and he’s not invading Swaylocks with his shapes everywhere. I like his boards, i like his videos, i like his stoke!

Boas noites!

Okay, lets move on…

I had an idea after the AB3 the other day, does anyone want to meet up in the next week or two down in the malibu area (or somewhere else if anyones got a better idea) for a mini hull get together?

im not sure how many of us are nearby, but i figured it would be fun to share boards, chat and surf for a day…anyone interested?
