hey how do you ride those Andreini spoons?

Well, I finally got the new Vaquero spoon out for a surf on Tuesday in some clean, waist+ point surf.

I’m still playing around, trying to find the right fin in the right location, but these are my initial thoughts…

The board is like a giant liddle pointbreaker! When I stand back over the fin to turn as you would on a normal log, the board tends to slow way down and get sucked up the face and into the pocket, as if it were stalling. But then when you cross-step forward to the middle (or farther), the board just takes off and burns down the line. I haven’t quite got the hang of turns on it yet. It turns easily enough, but i think, like a smaller hull, it will probably turn more naturally from farther up (rather than over the fin like a normal log).

It will allow you to noseride (and by noseride, I mean hang some toes over the edge) but I had to be on my game and anticipate the sections ahead of time since in order to get to the nose and stay there for any measurable time. It was tricky because you have to work your way up through the middle of the board which is like stepping on the gas peddle, so I kept passing the noseride sections by.

It will be a great board for small fast lines!

Off to Oregon for a few days, my son is gettin hitched.

what would you think of a 8’0" Bojorquez for a step down board for an intermediate surfer?

are they only good in clean waves?

im yet to see one here (ireland)

I really did not mean to obsess…

Funny all the same though.

That bottom turn is unreal…

9N78W, its all ok, I tried to put it inline but could not accomplish the task. Thanks.

get your vaqueero at castro street, S.F…

sneak peak of today’s new project

Fineline 6’2 Parabolic Stub Hull AKA “The Phantom limb”

Rockin the 9" GL Flex by Fibre Glass Fin CO and loving it!

New resin bead/tail template on the 6’1’’ Liddle:

nicely done man! looks like you added about an inch to your overall length there. the extended width in the tail looks like it’ll be good to turn off of. have you gotten to surf it yet???

6’2’’ is the new length.

Inspired by the siglo and gato “stubby ones” tails.

Will let you know details when she gets wet.

just finished…

hey Motif, i concur with QQg’s statement – it does look nicely done. However why didn’t you just get it 6’2" in the first place and just put less of a bead on and just shape the edge for more release?

me at rincon today

yeeeeehaw

Nice bottom turn Ryan!

less rocker in tail with that nice bead-should really fly!

It was not to create more length in the board, more to have a really good resin bead.

I wasn’t really specific about the tail when I asked GL to shape me the 6’1’'. I just wanted it wide and square.

Also I find it fun to experiment; sharper edge from the rail to an arc tail (actually I used a garbage can lid!) to see how

the board will ride with that style of tail. If it is no good, just sand back to original…

… just for fun …

Does anybody know if there is footage of Nat Young on that 8’ stringerless Keyo board at malibu in 1968??

great pic, Ryan. I truly dig how hull riders are sooo into a right proper bottom turn… unlike in anyother tribe, that is the move that when done ‘right’, seems to define good hull riding. Other tribes tend to look at the BT as simply setting up for a stellar lip bash or snap … or some other top move.

BTW - i’ve been contacted about possibly opening another hull thread, because this one takes long to load for some people. It doen’t matter to me that much either way- this person was trying to be polite about opening another thread … which is pretty cool when ya think about it … personally I do like having it all in one place… but if anyone feels like started another hull pic thread… by all means… i’ll be there too.

I don’t have a problem opening this thread exept that it doesn’t open to the most current page. It usually opens to a few pages back of the most current.
