is it around the same as the tail , mate ?

Here’s some Boards we’ve done in the Jungle shop, first attempts at Resin Tints

Latest creation, Using what i’ve gathered from this thread. Thanks everyone this one turned out trippier than the last ones.

Handmade snowboards in NJ? Wow, who knew? Checked your website and love the tribute to the original Burton Air (which was a horrible board, by the way).

Where in NJ are you located?

We’re in Bergen Co. but we’re moving right near Mountain Creek.

I cant argue about the performance of the 1990 burton air, as my first time ever riding one was when i finally got one off ebay in 2009, haha!

So i’d have to go back in time to when all those boards were fresh and new and do a comparison, i was riding a Cruise 155 at that time, then upgraded to a kemper FS 163 in 01.

I know that when i ride it now, the board pretty much pulls me down the hill, pulls me over jumps, its fun in crappy sloppy pow tho :), and awesome for pond-skimming :).

Wait which graphic were you talking about, the top or the base?  We’ve done “tributes” to both from different years of the air.

I’m talking about the blue/black topsheet with the squares and triangles. That was the first production Burton air and the first board they did with a rounded, upturned tail. It was basically a heavy/crappy version of the Sims  Kidwell (RIP TOM), which was state-o-the art at the time. I had both boards and the air was just a tanker. So heavy it was nearly useless.

FYI many of the best snowboard builders are from NJ. Paul Maravetz (longtime Burton board designer and founder/pres. of Rome) is from my hometown (Westfield). Not to mention Chuck Barfoot (back in LBI) and Sims. Go figure…

Yes sir, we’re hoping to follow in their footsteps.  :)

Its arguable that (TS may or may not have made the first snowboard) the very first official snowboard was built by Tom Sims in NJ, but that depends on how deep people dive into the origins of sideways snow sliding.  Either way we will miss him.

On to the Burton Air,

I believe the blue/black triangles, original burton air, was their '88 model year.  I always just loved the simplicity of that graphic, never had a desire to ride one, but it is somewhat iconic as their first freestyle snowboard.

The pink/blue prototype predecessor to that board, that you see in the catalogs… basically a cruzer with slightly longer up turned tail, I’d love to find one of those out there.

Thanks for being stoked

ps did you find pix of the 90 air tribute base we did?

First go at epoxy resin swirl… I wish I got the green darker, but happy with it. Much more fun than a clear free lap

Cutlap and top… 6’5" x 22 x 2 5/8

marko foam…

Wow. That orange amd red one appears to have a foot too…

But how is that last board, the twin? Cause I’m looking to shape something like that but quite short, probably around 5’4".

Enjoy some more resin color work.
