Show us your resin tints and patterns!

‘’%#!&*%‘’, he said. '‘I was doin’ that s#*t

in f%#ing 1964!!‘’.

yah i think the most important word there is WAS.

Yeah, Mully passed the torch a long time ago. I tried to get him to come out of retirement and do some splashes for me

about 15 years ago, but he just laughed. I’m sure somewhere in his grumpy old self he’s glad there’s guys like you doin’

such good work. Just remember who started it all.

You’d like his 550 hp Dodge Magnum that he uses to scare the crap out of anyone who’ll get in the passengers seat. Sometimes

I think all laminators are crazy, but then us shapers aren’t exactly normal either.

Yeah, no, it was “1964.”

i have huge respect of the originaters of acid splashys back then i think it was a literal term lol

huufing fumes in mass quantities is only cureable by large amounts of horse power and gobbs of torque. even ol thrailkill has a ride that can summin the demons.

i reallly want to find some pics or even the old boards that were done back then with abstract color work.

i think it be great fun to talk technique and stuff with other guys that did it in other places before i was even born…thats a rad ting about it…

it was done then and its done now what links the two is beyond me…greater than anyone exspecially me. i know its just laminating but if we did it on canvas its art.

thats what keeps me into it… it get a chance to give functional or"FUNtional" art to people around the world.

its more than just some color work.

yea well get back to work &do some more

take some pics & post

happy new year

                 huie

Hey Vader your boy Wyatt has been gettin’ silly over at Global glassing. Here’s a Hynson black knight quad he did.

all i have to say is dammmmmmm thats the cleanest shizzzzzzzzzzzlllllll!

I have a question to you Mr Vader…

when you do an integret multiple resin color panel like the one Lokbox just posted,

do you use very low amonts of cat in the colors as to not let the resin kick too fast (or not at all)

then spred a hot batch of clear over the colors to then kick it off?

seem’s to me like if you used the regular amount of cat in the colors there would be no time to finish the color work

???

you want it to kick all at the same time.

well… at least thanks for sharing the pics

so the guy who taught you made you figure it out all on your own?

I guess you were self taught

such a tease

well thats the dark side for ya

thats exactly what he told me.

no matter how many differnt colors or pours and fills or swirls and stripes.

you want all the resin to kick around the same time so… little catalyst for the early stuff and ramp up until you are done so it all goes off at the same time…so you can trim it.

More junk to look at…

6’1 from a while back.

I was really interested in the capabilities of resin art. I got this sunset idea and could not get it

out of my head. Didn’t know what was really possible. This is glass job # 5.

7’0 single, shaped on a machine.

This was before I had cool colors. Lime green don’t really work with blue, yellow, black & white.

It is a single bucket pour though, at least thats how I would describe it. I kinda like these the

best because its always a bit of a surprise. It is cool to have control, but I think you can trip

out more when its natural, and thats what acid tints are about, right?

I’m on a roll, so here they come!

5’9 quad fish. Handshape #6. Glass #7. Pinche inlay, I hate inlays! (so far)

Looks like some kind of Muppets character, ummm…yeah…

This was the day after I got new colors, and I could’nt decide what to use, so I used them all!!

Thinking of Cooperfish color jobs, obviously not pulling it. This was kinda funny looking, but kinda cool.

The board got SO HOT in the sun. How about less brown? Jeeeezzz…

5’8 twin shaped on machine.

This is when I started to see what was going on. I had decent colors, a few done, and could KIND OF

tell what was going to happen.

Ya KNOW these stars are hiding SOMETHING

Woops! Let a little lap out that pinline. “I never thought purple pinlines would be that big of a seller”

This is an 8’11, machine shape dupe. for my buddy. I was prepped with resin in buckets and said what

color? He finally said red black & yellow. This was two big buckets, started in the center, obviously

one with more black than the other.

My first attempt at tight line crazy mix ala Tudors I’ve seen, West Coast Glassing dude, whoever

is the ruler out there. A guy named Sam said maybe less black. I now undeerstand.

This is also when I started learning importance of squeegee, although not until after. (HEEE HEEE)

First attempt at polish too. When I laid this tint down I was SO Stoked. I only done one since, but learned

a crap load since then. It’s strange that while you are not doing things (glassing, shaping, surfing)

but thinking about things, (reading, watching, studying) you almost learn more,

so that when you DO do it, it comes out much better than before.

Anyway, this is from August or some shizz, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot in only one or two more color jobs.

What used to look TITS is now just another bump in the road. I believe there is so much possible

in this art form, it just takes creative minds to stir it up. I LOVE doing this. My neighbor is trying to

shut me down right now. I also love working at my house. Resin-X on the way? I hope so.

Thanx to y’all here at Sways, even if nobody replies to my weird ramblings, I must say thanx, I dun

learnt a lot here, an I’m ‘on keep on goin’…

Check out Kidman's new book when he go to Patagonia shop end "o the month

Thanx fer listenin’, The next board is sweet, I mean, gonna be, I mean I think so. (HA)

This is just a deck patch. Too easy if you don’t have to worry about lapping rails…

Kidding, kidding and kidding again… This stuff leaves me speechless, just like the one that you (Vader) posted earlier:

When I grow up, I want to be Darth Vader. (Being almost 53, I’m afraid I won’t grow up that much now, though…)

vader…

i miss our board sneak peaks…

give us a little!

haha

good cop

that board looks as if it was colored before

looks like someone did a great save job

if you mean this board

the bottom was free lapped and the deck was a zzzip lap the pinline was done and then ford went ahead and oulined the colors with pen to add his two sense.

no inlay no outlay no cutlap…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip lap

I see

May I ask what you meen when you say “zzip lap”

This might be a little too trippy. The pattern is off the chain!

Hey Ken,

I’ll bite at the zip lap. A zip lap is when you don’t necessarly need to do a full rail lap…no need to tuck the flap. This is only done on the glass over, not on open foam. So your usually doing it on a deck to the bottom lap

You just run you cloth as usual, wetout, laminate, but don’t tuck the lap under, just let it hang on the wet out. The cloth holds the resin from making drips on the underside. Once the glass has kicked some what, you run a razor blade around the rail edge and cut off the overhang. hence the zip, if your moving fast it sounds like a zipper.

It’s a cool way to do it, because you don’t need to prep the laps for the hot coat.
