Show us your resin tints and patterns!

This was our first shot at a swallow fish, and playing with resin tints. Also, we went with a quad fin setup. The fins

are all hand foiled and glassed on. Enjoy! Big shout out to Bill E.

nice !

you ‘may’ want to ‘blunten’ those wings a bit , to avoid sconing yourself like i did on hicksy’s dangerous ‘moonrocket’ ones [it lived up to it’s name , for sure …rocketed from a great high into my hollow wooden skull !!]

 this thread RULES !!

keep up the great photos , guys …18 pages …could end up being 30 , i reckon !!

cheers

Mmmm butterscotch

Generation 2 puzzle board

Orangy orange reverse cutlap

San Diego Charger board with offset bolts. This one will get the bolts highlighted with yellow

Bonus shot. Not a tint but love those pigmented foam fins!

BTW check out how clean this fin job is, done by Andy Poff best glass-on guy in our neck of the woods. Yes that’s a hotcoat not a gloss…

superb !!

thanks for sharing , jimi !!

Here’s a recent one on polyurethane…

My daughter (age 5) has been asking for a Strawberry Shortcake board for summer.

Love the hello kitty

…hello Atomized,

did your workshop had been posted on an old late 80 s Surfing?

how can you obtain such dark smooth Black pinlines onto the foam?

thanks

“did your workshop had been posted on an old late 80 s Surfing?”

The shop in the photos was built in '92 in the existing building that I’m now in.

“how can you obtain such dark smooth Black pinlines onto the foam?”

I use black gesso acrylic which has Calcium Carbonate (Chalk) in it. The Cal Carb keeps the paint from crystalizing on polyurethane foam. It’s best to shoot 2 lite coats vs. one heavy coat. Burnish down the tape well (I use the edge of a credit card). Surfboard foam with a fine cell structure like Ice9, Teccel, Surfblanks Australia, King Mac and US Blanks make for nice crisp edges on the graphics. Surfboard blanks with a coarse cell structure like Excell or Walker are a challenge to paint.

Here’s another one on Polyurethane…

nice air brushing there Atomized!

looks classy
