I SEE THAT YOUR WORK IS STILL LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF THE REST…
Ok Ken, Lets see if this newbe can figure out how to get in line and show his first resin tint on a 6’5". Thanks, Mahalo, Hans
Ken, Finally figured it out. Here’s my first resin tint and had a blast doing it. Still learning and need to be humble. Thanks to all who have contributed! Mahalo, Hans
Hans
that is one sweet lookin board
did you glass it and polish?
looks pro
Love the swirl! and the fade off lap!
Very cool! I hope my first one turns out that good.
Ken, Yes, I glassed it and polished it. My first polish job also. Second time I’ve done pinlines. The board is here in Costa Mesa/Newport area if you want to see it in person. Email me at: flyingfish360@aol.com to contact me if you are interested. dont be afraid to mix the colors and have fun. Pic one primary color and then add the others in smaller amounts. They have to be catalized first before you mix them in. Also, be comfortable in doing a regular glass job before you attempt a resin tint. This is # 55 of the boards that I have made. I used to glass all of my boards and then only shaped and have started glassing again. Mostly because of expense and quality control. Have fun with your board and pray for surf! Hans
Im in HB
so we’ll meet up soon enough
heres my latest atemt at resin color with control
Ive done a few swirls ,their easy compared to this
Ken, Nice job on the plaid!!! Someday I will give it a go. I think I can figure it out, just need to practice on a piece of foam first before I go for it. No guts… no glory, just like surfing! Happy New Year, Hans

got a question… is it standard to be able to see the weave on tints?
6 oz moreso then 4 oz
could you squeegee in a thin tinted cheater after lamming before the hotcoat
jus to basically fill the weave with colour
Im not the guru
and Im not familiar with the glass you used
but
I like to flood it good and wet before the pull off
try not to squeegee to hard so it wount suck air back in
mabe pull once then rewet and pull again
I thought the close ups showed some air in the weave but maybe its just the cloth
heavy cloth will show weave but not white spots
i dont think its air in the weave
its a course 6 oz cloth
looks like it drained on you. either leave it a little wetter or kick it hotter so it doesnt drain into the foam. the resin has to set before it has a chance to leave that little void between the fibers. how long did it take to set after you lam’d it?
I actually like the look of the weave on that one Paul.
It really shows how incredibly symmetrical you got the layup.
That’s some damn nice work!
hmm i think that glass might be heat treated
volan takes tints best
good work just the same’’
