Thanks I will!
Life lesson:
Don’t go to Sacred Craft right before you glass a board – overstimulation leads to bad decisions
An epoxy (RR) egg deck inlay w/ 10 different tints:
A pathetic attempt to ape some amazing work Wyatt did a coupla years ago (and prolly 20 pages back in this thread)
Padawan punkmonkeys should not try to imitate the jedi masters – I blame sacred craft ;>)
That's actually really good!
dont be so hard on yourself
it looks pretty good from that angle
That’s a lot of little cups in the background. Did you mix the colors yourself?
Yeah – it seems like the only way for me to avoid major blotchiness w/ epoxy & tints is the follow the GWN school and mix colors from powdered pigments one small bit at a time.
I think it looks great
Here are my three newer boards, #2 - 4 from left to right. 6’4" x 21 1/4" x 2 7/8" diamond tail egg, 7’6" x 21 1/2" x 2 3/4" funboard, 6’3" x 19 1/2" x 2 1/4" thumbish shortboard. All EPS and epoxy. Lots of people were super helpful with the making of these, they all surf pretty well as far as I can tell, especially the shortboard. Tons of fun with probox and the Flaming(o) Egg has SurfTrux with a 10.5" center box. I broke my center FCS adaptor so it’s been a single fin recently; a bit wide of a tail for that and it shows but still a fun board to surf with some wall. The green board is my girlfriends, I made it for her birthday and we recently retrieved it and my fish (favourite board! heartbreak…) from a ditch where it was abandoned after her car was stolen… epic. Got the car and our wetsuits back eventually.
Next in the works is a little biscuit-like thing… I fondled one in my local shop today, probox to be ordered soon!
Stoked to have something to put up on this fantastic thread, keep 'em coming boys it just never gets old to me!!! And many thanks to everyone who helped me out with the Epoxy glassing questions and with the dims on the shortboard…
here is an inlay i did, this was my first attempt and i sorta messed up getting the fabric strraight, looks kinda wierd with the long vertical stripes.
Pictures are off my phone, and not the best quality.
Looks pretty cool wavy. Like you put them on that way for something different.
looks tripy
in a good way
here's few I finished a few weeks ago. The LB was is EPS epoxy sealed with epoxy and micro balloons then painted with full automotive paint. the colors are really strong and brighter then any water based Iv'e used. And when its us sealed properly you don't have to worry about the paint eating away the foam. The epoxy doesn't bother the paint ether. plus you get to use pearls! The little quad is standard poly/poly with airbrushed art and the rocket I designed in photoshop then printed it on rice paper. Enjoy

Deepboards, that LB is 'Da Bomb!!' Love the outline, tail shape and of course the colours are brilliant! With the shortboard, were you looking to do a '80's' theme? The outline reminds me of some of the boards around my home break back in 85'! Looks like it would shread the small stuff in summer! Would love to hear the feedback on those two!
yeah, the shortboard is a sort of retro outline with a modern twist of bottom contours. That board ended up in the hands of an extremely talented ex hawaiian pro that loves it in small surf. Iv’e seen him pull out of the water aerials in 2 foot waves on that thing! The LB is a great board too. I glassed it with a 6/4 deck and 6 bottom. turned out about 12lbs. So far it works best as a single fin but im still trying different set ups as a 2+1. I think I will find the optimal set up really soon. let me know if you want the dims on that LB.
one i’m really happy with, but will likely not repeat unless possessed by something…the tape was 100% invisible for the cut on all of the lines, so it was more than a pain in the ass
The harder the work, the greater the result! I love it.
Ken, looks like you pretty have the hang it. Nicely done. Wish I could do that in epoxy.
Thats amazing. Not only is the cutout great, but the fabric is awesome.
How did you get the cutout done? By feel?
I’ve only done one fabric inlay so far and ended up using a pattern I made of the area inside the cutlap at the nose. I did a test and couldn’t see the tape, and even feeling the cutlap edges, it ended up being a hideous cut. The fabric cut very raggedly as well, not at all like glass.
Props on the great work.
