Show us your resin tints and patterns!

waited for the resin to gel a bit more than i would with glass becasue the cotton stays pretty pliable, and use a REALLY sharp razor…i think i went through 4 or 5 on that board to keep it cutting well. i had to cut that all pretty much blind, i ended up pulling a small amount up at a time and cutting an inch or two farther, then pulling that up and cut another inch or two, it took about 45 minutes to do the actual cut work and i was pretty well set on taking an extended lunch break afterwards!!!

These are my first attempts at playing with color. The grey fish is #6 for a buddy (Andrew). RR epoxy over poly w/ an airbrush. I mixed acrylic paint with Future floor polish and sprayed it using a siphon fed gun. Lots of learning occured. I actually looked pretty good when I was done airbrushing. No streaks or anything. Oh - one question though: what are you using to tape the stringer? I used 1/8" pinstriping tape and it didn’t really work that well.

The red board is my Rocket inspired #7, for me. My first EPS board. I put red pigment in the epoxy/cabosil/q-cell slurry I used to seal the blank. It was actually kind of a bitch to deal with. I didn’t apply it evenly, got lumps on the rails, didn’t cover one side completely with one coat. Ended up doing a lot of sanding in my driveway. Lots of learning occured. Oh, and there’s glitter in the cheater coat (after lam, before hot coat).

I liked tjrm63's blue and yellow rising sun I had to do a 6'3" mini gun with the same design.

It's a one day job so we had to use sun cure. Also this is a US Blank Red Formula. They hold colors really well.

Mudster

You other guys stuff is lookin good also!

Hi guys,

nice longboard men, congrats!! can you give me some tips about how to make a proper pin line??

thanks!

Hey Bartt!

I'm falling in love with these resin tints, seems the sky's the limits.

The yellow board with the blue sky/cloud resin mix was heaps of fun to do. Also did resin pin lines. Got most of my information here on line and in the archives. A few things I learnt from board 1 was to make sure you add the darkest colour to the light, to pour your mix over as much as the board as you can before you spread it. I found that what ever colour hits the deck first seems to be what colour remains, even after spreading the mixed resin over it later.

I just did a yellow tint on the bottom with a cut lap. Then marked my semi circle and taped it all off. Laid 4 ounce in the area and mixed my white resin in a bucket with a cup separate cup of blue on the side. Then added a bit of blue to the white and did the old swirl with a mixing stick and started to pour. Basically I just let the resin do all the work. Then glassed the rest of the board with two more layers of 4 ounce like a normal glass job.

Mate there is a great video with a lot of basic tips called The Master Glasser. I've actually read posts in the Archives from Mr Brucker himself! It shows the basics of resin tints, inlays, resin pins etc etc. What it fails to tell you I seem to find here, especially after making a few mistakes! I can't believe the wealth of information on here, it really is a big family!

Anyway, good luck, can't wait to see what you come up with!

Mick
