…it s very important if you use so much the leash or surf larger waves, etc
those rods pushed away from the plug is a repair that appear in the wshop and always in those where the rod is parallel.
with this and other stuff you see the difference between a guy (the glasser, shaper, etc) who really knows his trade (and that surf fine for sure) and the copycats
Ive always notised the plugs I use you can see the rod goes through completely, end to end, no way to slip out
but I have seen one sliped out on a china board
I will make an effort to cross the sringer fom now on
good to know
thanks
Hi Reverb
Im kind of confused from what you wrote…
those who dont place the rod correctly are copycats?? what exactly are they copying?
I’ve been working in the surf industry for while now, glassed hundreds of boards,
fixed maybe a few thousand and was lucky enough to see a lot of boards, but think that anyone
that tries to build a board, and isn’t sure which way to place the rod, is for sure no copycat, and has
my respect for even trying to build something based on the facts they find here on swaylocks…
glass leash loops are the cure to any plug problem, and if done right if for some reason it fails it does no damage to lam or blank!!!! anyway here are just a few of my latest boads.....
thx, Avi. I’m just a rookie color guy. Did you do red on the lam and the fill coat? WhenI’ve added white, I get pink. Maybe too much white. Yours looks great.
nice control
kind of jedi like,,,,,,, hmm I wonder???
thanx ken......the secret to the force is in this thread no doubt about it..... ill post a pic of it finished in a few days
“A whiter shade of pale…”
great song Balsa and great board.
what are the dims?
Hey Rasta. Sweet little fish in the middle pic. What are the dimensions? Epecially, how wide is the tail, tip-to-tip?
Good work, a real treat to look at.
This will be my next “everyday board” and it’s actually like nothing else… It’s 9’3" but it’s not a longboard, with a gunny outline and a lot of rocker but at 23 1/2" wide you can’t really call that a gun either. Also, it’s 3 7/8" thick to accomodate my lbs 20 in excess and it has rather thick (but pinchy, if that means anything) 50/50 rails all the way from nose to tail. Not sure it will work but I will keep you informed…
As for the song, I want it played at my funeral. If ever I die, that is…
right on Balsa... looks like it will cover a lot of conditions
Hey Balsa
Never really been a fan of of 'acidsplash' tints but that is beautiful!
Cheers
Rich
Thanks, guys. Just for the report, here is how I achieved the color: started with a healthy dose of fluorescent pink then added transluscent blue until it became more or less purple and then added some transluscent white to soften the color. That was the base color in which I poured some blue, white and black pigment (in two successive pours, thanks Austin for the trick…) Then I randomly poured that mix on the cloth, waited for two to three minutes for the resin to reach the blank and went playing with the squeegee. Mmmmmmmh, love it.
Wondering what I will do on the deck side… Right now, there’s a basic cutlap, that’s all. Thinking about some cloth inlay, maybe… Got any ideas?
Just one more thing: I shaped that board out of the USBlanks 9’3"A and it’s really good for “big guys” boards with its 4 1/4" max thickness. With a “widener” in the middle, it would probably make a good SUP blank, too.
leave the deck white
just pinline it
Balsa,
If you like the 9' 3" A you may like the 8' 2" A also. One of my favorite blanks for more full figured surfers
