seeing the grin on a kid’s face when they are first starting out and all - that’s why I’m still in the biz …
NEVER lose that …
I’ve said it before …I’ll say it again …
" NEVER lose touch with your inner grommet …"

there is a difference beween being childlike and childish, stoke is childlike, being greedy wave hog is childish. Waves my antidrug. yeah i can rember the first tme i stood up on a board and the grin across my dads face, priceless, skating can switch what stance you use before i started on my longskate board i was a goofy now i a a regular go figure, teaching my self to switch is tough.
My kids (8, 5, & 2) at the beach with a great swell going off last summer. I’m building the oldest a board for this summer here on the east coast, US [just ordered the blank today]. I hope to share the great activities of board building and surfing with all of them.

I love that shot mate …shows the ‘own little world’ that kids are in when they get to the beach …
ummm…come to think of it …surfers , when they get to the beach …
this is probably because i have teenage mind thats in the gutter but wildy that can really be taken the wrong way if u know what i mean.
Yeah Rider, you’re right. So you’ll ride anything that moves eh??? (Typical teenager, no!!) And if it doesn’t move…push it.
I guess that relates to surf too…push it!
now, if you stood on top of this sheep , would it then be "tandem surfing " ?
… just a thought…

Imagine , by the time she’s my age , she will have been surfing for 38 years !! [all going well!]

I got stoked seeing hicksy’s 6 and 7 year olds standing on your wooden boards , and I can only imagine how much more YOU were , Grant !..[your own kids surfers ? woohoo !]
I can’t remember whether I already posted this shot of my friend Patrice’s son, Awen, with the brand new micro-longboard that I made for him, or not? If so, I apologize (posting on several forums at the same time, it’s hard to keep track of everything…)
Anyway, Patrice recently sent me this shot of Awen riding his very first wave. Four years old. Can you imagine what the next generation is gonna do? I’m feeling even older… (Just kidding, of course, shots like that make me feel alive and well and shaping more and more…)

my friend Patrice’s son, Awen, with the brand new micro-longboard that I made for him…
that, my french friend , is my favourite grom shot so far !!
thanks for that !
ben
…that is one STOKED boy !! [and a nice looking stubster , and paint job too, by the way…what dimensions are that board please, Bill ?

Ben, dimensions are 5’ 1" X 17" 1/8 X 2" 1/16. No paint job, fabric inlay. Posca pinline on sanded hot-coat, then gloss. Square-tail, 50/50 rails, single fin.
Four years old.
sorry but awen is not four years old but three!!! ![]()
Sorry, Patrice… THREE years old… As a matter of fact, I rode my first wave when I was eleven… And shaped my first board at 14. Do you think Awen will shape his first when he’s 6?
Hey Daddy can we wash the car in our bathers?
It’s only 15 deg C (58F) !!!
That’s OK !!!
They loved being sprayed down with the hose afterwards…
Oh to be that young again…
Kai [4] and Mitch [2] aren’t surfing …yet …
…but they don’t let THAT stop them getting air !

I like the way they are natural switchfoots when they start out …
Kate … [railgrab pigdog, to make the section]
now, practicing for Aussie pipe [a few clicks down the road] , on her “forehand” …

And here is Kate’s older brother Dane , doing the same …[Ross , his dad, says he is turning now]
switch…

Kai … [as in : “ocean”]
Aw crap, that was to be the name of my first born…
hi Pete !
…do it , anyway !
Kai is a good little grom , and ‘big Daz’ [his dad] is a classic !
So, you’re keeping up a good “tradition” !
ben
…“Kai” is a cool name , I reckon !
