Finished the wood work on the deck last night. Now to flip it over and do the rest of the woodwork, do the wiring and paintwork…
Any ideas on colour scheme, I’d like to keep most of the wood au natural…

Now you need a half pipe for this board… ;-)))))))))))))
my immediate impression was the detail in the tool pile grafik
was so realistic it looked loke a real pile of tools.
I wood have never thought of light weight ply decking
I continue my state of slack jawed awe
this is a fabulous endevor .
we at the academy wish to bestow you a spontaneous doctorate
.Dr. Hiksy has a swell ring to it.
I like it.
…ambrose…
wiring for BRAKES?
or just night time running lights
on the interskateway?
looking great hicksy, but grip tape will cost you a fortune!
lol.
Ambrose, I’m feeling totally indoctrinated now, thank you for your tooled observation…
The wiring is for running lights yes, and a stereo system…
Putting on the ritz, for big events, day or night…
Pimped is good for the viewers…
Need…to…attract…sponsors…
Puxti, you could probably use it as a half pipe!!!
There’s about 12’x5’ of space between the kicks!!!
Oldy, thanks for reminding me, continuous rolled sandpaper could do the trick…
Needs 20’ lengths…
Way too much fun…

How about the paint or sealant of choice, sprinkled with sifted sand or washed sandbox sand and recoated as needed?
I would think about a handgrip cable or hydraulic disc brake thrown into the mix…hate to see you run over the crowd as the mobs try to get close.
I’m enjoying this project a lot, Gil
Hey Grunion
It’s got discs on the rear trucks, master cylinder in the middle. I’m setting up a deadmans brake so if it’s released the back end locks up, good to control speed too.
Did a dummy run down the hill I’m going to test it on in my Kombi, just rolled down in neutral, hit 35mph at the bottom, and not very wind friendly…the BSE will go a bit faster I expect…
I’ll need to keep the deck clear of grip tape for the time being, never know who might want to put their logos on it…
Sponsors needed…did I mention that before…
very interesting. I saw the post, I’m thinking a skateboard the size of a semi truck. Well Nev’s biggest surfboard comes to mind. But this is still big nonetheless. But that things crazy … . (as in cool crazy) post the video of it and you riding it. That’s gnarly.
But seems right up your alley . . . (from your previous avatars and sliding down that sand bank on that crazy animated gif).
This thread proves to my wife that I’m not really doing nutty stuff at all, out in our garage…
And to think, she was freaked out by hotwires.
"Sponsors needed…did I mention that before… "
? maybe St. Johns Ambulance ?
…when they are called out to the carnage , you will be giving them at least twenty patients at a time . Maybe they could give you a reduced fee, because you won’t be doing multiple callouts , just one , with a truck [skate] load of patients !
Or maybe…Donald J. Chipper And Sons [no , no relation] …they are West Australian Funeral Directors .
cheers

Maybe its too obvious…but what about Nev?
He’s already got the world’s biggest surfboard. He’s got a team of riders who know how to move together. Instead of jet ski tow in, you could use motorcycles…Bert would like the wood - especially on the rails And I’m sure someone here would know how to get a message to him… Firewire flagship? Mount a vac bag & hotbox underneath and have it double as a rolling factory?
Thanks for the idea Benny, I’ll need all the help I can get. (not head help chipper)
Went to turn the board over last night, Jo and I got over it to a certain point then we got scared, we need 2 more people to catch it on the other side…
Maybe tonight…
Hi Hicksy,
Could you or anyone write a general letter to sponsors and post it on here? I just wanted to help out and I think a printed out or emailed formal letter sent to some viable sponsors would be really helpful. I was thinking of writing one up but I don’t really know what exactly to say to sponsors (I’ve never done such a thing). I also didn’t want to speak on behalf of Hicksy. So, any good wordsmiths out there?
Cheers,
Rio
Thanks Dak
That’s a great idea, I’m not that good at promoting things in words so if anyone has a template or an example of a promo speil that’d be great.
When the board is more ready to show off I’ll build a website up and then contact possible sponsors.
What I really need are contacts in the industry.
Lots more done on the board this weekend.
Showing the lean angle, prior to flipping it over…
All metal painted up with gloss black…
I put a box section between the trucks, this really tightened the board up.
Cut the holes for the speakers…It’ll have a 12 volt module in the centre to run the amplifier and lighting…
Tricky bits all done…
the excitement builds, hicksy, the excitement builds…
and the plots of land at the local cemetry are being prepared …
hicksy: any progress mate? photos? video? injuries? lawsuits? police records?
Hey Oldy
I’ve finished the wood on the bottom now and sanded back all the sharp edges.
At the moment it’s sitting on blocks upside down with it’s wheels in the air. Tonight I’m getting 3 big blokes over to help turn it right way up.
I’ll take some piccies of it tonight and post something tomorrow.
I offered the board to our surf club to raise some funds through advertising but they can’t take me up on it due to manpower issues. I’m going to speak to the CEO of Surf Lifesaving WA after I skin the rails and see what he thinks…
Flipped it over last night, took 3 of us to lift it and balance…
The underside, I’ll put the stereo stuff into it after it’s painted…
It’s a big bugger…
One more…
